"Helping our inner cities" - Define please. That phrase is incredibly vague. Yes I support that exact sentence, but please actually give me details of the plan before you ask whether I support it.

Yes I approve of them sitting and talking about it, but again we need specifics about what will actually change in the US to support businesswomen. For a start I would love to see our parental leave match Canada's. It doesn't come close and all of the changes I've seen suggested from Trump's team don't even come close.

No intrinsic policies, nothing. Just hot air wrapped up in promises. I can't agree with something if it is not spelled out what would be done

to effect change for the better.

I am not stupid enough to jump on a turnip wagon to nowhere just because it's a wagon.

I can only speak for myself although I have seen others comments and posts on social media BUT:

1)  I have never called anyone a name or used profanity here or on social media for posting their viewpoint.  I have in return been called names for expressing mine.

2)  I have asked trump supporters questions and to explain why they feel a certain way or explain their viewpoint.  I never seem to get a straight factual answer and again just get called names.

3)  I always do my best to treat everyone with respect and in a similar fashion as how I wish to be treated. 

4)  So far the only thing I can support of trump's policies is removing the TPP and NAFTA.  I didn't agree with Obama's stance on it.  But everything else of trumps seems to be riddled with misleading info, misguided agenda's and repercussions that hurt more than they help.  Ironically, when I went to the trump rally here, I was clapping for him when he talked about jobs and TPP.  Everyone turned and looked at me like I was crazy. They ended up interrupting him with chants of "Lock her up" and "Build that wall".  It was the weirdest thing!!  Another observation was that I counted literally 7 blacks and a few asians, in an arena full of mostly old and young white men.  It just felt strange to me that the audience was not more diverse.

5)  I don't oppose just for sheer enjoyment.  I oppose when its not true, not right, unfair, and not helpful to the needs of the American people....all American people not just rich whites.  It's not whining its called activism and you're supposed to speak up when your elected politicans are not acting in the manner you elected them to.  Isn't that the point of American democracy?

Yep and that is the key right there.  Every campaign speech I watched and listened to was filled with big promises but revealed no actual plan of how those promises would be achieved.

No, you aren't. Not genuinely. People on your side of the aisle are too invested right now in their own disbelief and misery,  and refuse to hear any other opinion than their own. Now that I've mopped up the sarcasm dripping from my screen,  all the same.

 

Being offended doesn't work anymore. The key is discussion, and if you are unwilling to do that you are creating the very conditions in which Trump and people like him can thrive. You need to reengage with the  democratic process, figure out why your candidate lost, reshape your  entire message, and then fight like mad in 2018.

The answer to how he could possibly have won, was right there on the election map. Trump won because he over performed in rural and suburban counties and Hillary’s advantage in the cities just wasn’t enough to compensate. Maybe the people who live in those more rural  areas got tired of being belittled as a bunch of racist, sexist, homophobic, backward, Bible-banging basket of deplorables. How do you think people are going to vote if you speak to them that way? When has anyone ever been persuaded by being insulted or labeled ? 

The reason you didn’t recognize your own country  the night of the election is because the swath of the population that you’d relegated to the rubbish heap of American history was larger and angrier than you thought, and they decided they weren’t comfortable shoved down there anymore. So they got up, dusted themselves off, and headed to the polls to get your attention the only way they knew how. In their numbers.

Maybe if you’d allow conservative speakers on campus and stop entombing yourselves in insular safe spaces, you wouldn’t be so shocked to realize that many people reject your ideas. Yes, some of Trump’s supporters may be hateful, stupid, misogynistic white supremacists who aren’t worth arguing with, but you can’t spend the next four years viewing 60 million people as utterly irredeemable. Shaming them and shouting them down didn’t work. You’ll have to convince them. Your argument won't won by hurling labels and insults, or posting scurrilous memes on Facebook or other social media, or screaming and marching through  the streets wearing pink representations of female anatomy on your heads. You need to talk to people who think differently than you do and persuade them of your argument. Such an easy thing to do, but the left has lost the art. Stop thinking that everyone who disagrees with you is stupid, or evil, or sexist, or racist and talk to them.
