Finding work as USC vs Immigrant, is there a difference?

I have a USC friend who was born in one of the territories. She was raised and finished her school in the PH. She doesn't have any US experience. Now, she is planning to relocate where I am. She doesn't know how to drive but speaks decent english. She works in the customer service industry.

 

Questions:

 

Is there a difference when it comes to time line if an USC applies vs. an immigrant?

What can she do to make her job hunting easier and faster?

 

Like me, she doesn't have credit history once she moves here.

What part of customer service is she in? It's a big field.  

 

I'm in hotel management and didn't have any issues with finding a job once I immigrated. Your friend should focus on highlighting her strengths and valuable work experience in her resume. 

 

Unless you're in New York or Chicago, your friend should probably also focus on getting a driver's license once she moves here. For many employers, a driver's license is a must, especially in the service industry.

She works in the call center in the Philippines. I totally forgot how big the customer service industry is. lol.

With that background, depending on how good her English is, she can look at working the switchboard for hotels or big corporations.

As bad as it may sounds, USC vs Immigrant isn't always the thing they look for when hiring. It's US experience versus Overseas experience.

She may not get the job she's looking for straight away, but even if she gets work experience in the US for another type of job, just having work experience WITHIN the US can greatly boost her  chances at getting the job she's looking for.

Thank you for the info. I know she speaks decent english but I wouldn't know for sure how good her english is compared to people who gets to practice it all the time. I'll tell her about this though.

That's good to know. She might not have so much time to wait for the right job but you mean even if she gets another job from a completely different industry would help right?

Pretty much, simply having US references and working in the US (to understand US culture and such) helps, even if it's in another industry.
