I would just like to register my disapproval of the Trump Immigration Megathreads. We don't allow multiple topics on any other thread. If someone posts their own concerns on someone else's thread, the new question is almost instantly split off into its own thread, often with a warning not to "hijack" someone else's thread.

And yet, any speculation or concern about what the current administration is doing with regard to any type of immigration is forced onto one thread. No one's questions get answered, and it's hard to even find the topic one is looking for, without reading through pages and pages of different people's concerns, many of which are very different.

I fail to understand why this megathread is being forced upon us, rather than allowing all voices to be heard, all questions to be asked and discussed and not buried 5 pages deep in an unfocused, vitriolic megathread.

Can someone explain to me why these topics (which are admittedly contentious, but important, and causing a great deal of consternation among your members) are being treated so differently than any other topic on any other forum?

I read it was because they didn't want all the trump posts and talk clogging up the forums.  So they put it in a megathread to keep it all in one place.

I don't even read it for the reasons you stated.  It's too hard to find topics, way to much reading, and too congested with random posts going here and there.

I know. But with a pretty "anti-immigration" platform as a candidate and now as president, I feel as though people have legitimate questions that need to be answered, and they're not getting answered because they're buried in that megathread. His actions are directly affecting many of us, and I don't think asking about them can really be considered "clogging" up the forums. Isn't this sort of discussion what the forums are for?

Is VJ really the best platform to have your questions about Trump's policy answered? Most of the questions I've seen are full of hysteria with a touch of paranoia. My understanding is that the purpose of the mega thread is simply for discussion/opinion... but if you have any questions about the policy or how it might affect your individual case, why not just take it to google and read the actual policy and learn if it affects you/your country. Or simply read the threads contents, first. I see a lot of people jumping to post questions without having done any actual research themselves. A lot of these people can answer their own questions if they take the time to look into it.

With that said, the mega thread is a good idea. Every forum/social media platform I frequent is flooded with Trump topics. It gets old. Not everybody wants to see Trump this, Trump that everywhere they go. This is why it's nice to keep it contained to one thread. It keeps the forum clean and organized. I don't read the Trump mega thread every day, but when I do occasionally visit I have about a dozen pages to get caught up on... and I don't mind taking the time to do so.

Perhaps its own sub forum? Then there can be as many threads as wanted and no need to spam the main forums?

A Trump sub forum? I know a few guys that would never leave.

I have a pic I'd post but it would just get removed. :(

(Hint: it features something that starts with "Jerg.")
