I believe that if you change your name after marriage you are unable to change the name on social security number until AFTER AOS has been filed and you receive your EAD or GC. Its to do with not having ID to say the alien name has changed from USCIS. A marriage certificate is okay if the USC is changing her name but if its the immigrant it doesn't suffice. Occasionally you may get it allowed depending on office but I remember reading that the actual SS rules are that it won't suffice for an alien name change.

It works perfect for most of us, it's only in rare cases you end up with a SS worker who refuses to do it. Then you might have to wait for your EAD. But at least you have your SS number which you can still use even if the card is in your maiden name still.

I know :) Was just pointing out that technically that is the law so a marriage cert might not be enough. Nothing more :)

Hi babygurl! Well the review for FLL as POE is pretty much constant. Before I flew in here, I already read the same reviews about FLL, people wait for 2 hrs or so just to get their docs verified and validated. So I already know what to expect. And that's with or without the  presence of the petitioner.. :)

wow ok best of luck

That's one of the downsides with the K-1 visa. Knowing what I know now, and if I could change things, I would totally go for the CR-1 instead.

Ohhh this is just the beginning :)

K1 is the pre-game.

We filed for my SSN today. Tomorrow the marriage license.

It feels so good knowing that we have accomplished something. We can only sit back and relax once I have my 2yr GC and I have already started working. :)

Hey everyone, we already got our visa and I'm traveling soon to the US to Ohio but my POE will be Fort Lauderdale. I would like to know if anyone has any recent experience (OF THIS YEAR) on this POE . Also I would like to ask if anyone knows how is the process of getting the SSN in Cleveland, OH.If I would need to do it before or after getting the marriage license.

Thank you for your help.

Hey cris, question since you just went through your interview process at the emBassy, the reports they ask for are just antecedente judicial penales and judicial a nivel nacional Right? Those have stamps  de reniec and ministerio del exterior are those stamps needed on marriage certificates my moms only has reniec so we're not sure if she needs that min del exterior stamp?

Hello, I would love to help you but my visa is a k1 type, not a relative one so I don't know what documents they ask for that type of visa. For k1 type of visa I just needed to present all those antecedentes (penal, judicial and policial) but I didn't need to stamp anything on them. Maybe you can search in the same visa journey but in a forum that has the information for that type of visa for your mom. :)
