do i absolutely NEED to have my certificate of citizenship (n-600) to file the cr1? i became a citizen through my mother while i was under 18 but never thought i would need that certificate and now i see in the form for the cr1 asking me for the information... it just seems insane to pay about 1200 for this certificate that doesnt really do anything but if i need it for this then it seems i have no choice.

no, you don't need to, but do you have any other proof that you are a US Citizen, such as an American passport?

if so, then you don't need the certificate, if she check the i130 form which you heed to file, there is a question about how did you obtain your citizenship,

there is a check for parents and then they ask you if you have a certificate or you don't. you check the box where it states that you don't have a certificate
