Hi ,I'm a Canadian with a 10 year green card living in the USA now , I recently started getting a pension from my Canadian job that I used to work at while living in Canada, Canada is taking 15% tax from that pension, what I am wondering, and can't seem to find the answer to this question is where do I file taxes on this pension?...is it here or in Canada?...If somebody has experiences with this I would appreciate the help..Thanks.

Hi! I have begun drawing from my pensions also, and as far as I know we have to file our taxes with both Canada and the US. We have to pay Canada the tax that was withheld when the money was deposited into the plan. Then the IRS needs to know about any and all income, foreign or domestic. This year I found someone in H & R Block who can do both for me.  We also have to file an FBAR. I tell you, Google is my friend but he can't do my taxes.  Good luck friend! I am sure someone with a bit more knowledge than I have will chime in here with some information. :)

Not sure this is right. After moving to the US, I tried to pay taxes on spousal support from my Canadian ex to the CRA and they sent it back, saying I wasn't a resident and therefore do not pay taxes there.

Yes, but this is pension which was not taxed along with earnings at the time it was earned. Canada taxes it when you draw it, wherever you are. It is considered income from Canada. I received a NR tax form for what I withdrew last year and have to file that with CRA. And then I have to claim that income with the IRS also. Spousal support is not like an RRSP or pension. Pensions are regulated up the wazoo in Canada..

Yup, you need to file in both countries.  There is a reciprocal agreement between us and cdn, so any tax paid in Canada will be credited on your us return.  Also, if you have any other Canadian investment  (ie, rrsp)  you must provide that info on your us return.  The us wants to know ALL sources of income for us residents.  Failure to report can result in fines.
