Really wish EAD/AP application were like a credit card application, which is automatic and takes 1 minute (Credit card assessment is no simple thing!).

Anyway, just heard on the forum that EAD could be discriminated by potential employers due to their lack of EAD knowledge. Not having an EAD would be even worse, wouldn't it?

Charming12, you mentioned you have got multiple job offers; any tips and tricks for describing one's immigration status when filling out online job applications when one only has an expired K-1 visa and no EAD would be really great!

Wish you good luck with getting your EAD soon!!!

I'm also feeling helpless, frustrated and bored. I left a bachelor's degree and a career in my country to come here. Then they don't let me get a DL, work, can't do anything by myself. I feel embarrassed every time I have to ask someone for something.

It just makes me want to address the nation and say "see these politicians inciting hate against immigrants? Well they came up with a system that charges thousands of dollars to register our permanent residency when we do it by the book, and in the meantime we cannot work or, guess what, get documents, do you folks think this is functional"...

Many choose to immigrate to the USA via the K1 because it is faster than other methods such as a spousal visa(CR-1/IR-1).  Before starting an immigration process, you need to do your own "due diligence" as to the pros and cons the visa method chosen.

Agree.

The thing is, maybe to someone, option one has 20 pros and 20 cons, and option two has 10 pros and 30 cons. So naturally he/she would choose option one since it has more pros and fewer cons. But it still has a lot of cons. Maybe people were just wishing there were fewer cons.

Then you accept those cons because that is the path you chose.  Some of us realize that working and travel ability are important to us as people.

People should stop applying for jobs when you are unable to actually work yet.  Especially when we predicted several months ago that EAD would slow down. How that your inability to legally work yet isn't mentioned within a job interivew, at the very least, if not the actual application is beyond me! Every job interview and most applications ask me if I am able to work in the USA, which as a green card holder, I truthfully answer yes.  As someone without a green card or EAD, the truthful answer here would be no.

Anyhow off my soapbox.

Some posters have had some success getting a driver's license with an NOA 1. As long as they are able to verify your status VIA SAVE it is the only requirement. Give me a sec and I will try to post the link.

Hi everyone.  I've been actively reading this thread for the last few weeks, and now that everything is in motion I figured I'd share my details.

12/16/2016 - Attorney mailed my packet to Chicago lockbox.

12/20/2016 - Packet was delivered

1/9/2017 - Received NOA in the mail for I-765, I-485, and I-130 (Notice date was 1/3/2017)

1/13/2017 - Received Biometrics appointment letter, appointment set for 1/25/2017

For anyone reading this who is in Florida - contrary to what the DMV website says, you CAN get a drivers license before receiving your EAD.  Even my attorney told me the same thing.  However, I did some research and found the DMV's "Acceptable Documents Table" and on page 13 under the section titled "I-797 for I-130 Pending" it states that a pending application is enough to get a license valid for 1 year.  I went to the DMV with this page printed out as well as all the required documents.  My wife came with me and brought her passport since it says they require evidence of petitioner's status.  I was expecting the DMV worker to have no idea about this rule, however, he barely looked at the page I printed out and proceeded to ask for all the required documents without question.  I have an expired Florida license, but I don't think that makes any difference.  They do not give you an actual license right then and there.  Instead, they print a slip out that serves as a temporary driving permit which can be used immediately, and is valid for 60 days.  You would need some kind of picture ID along with this in case you get pulled over since the permit does not have a picture on it.  If you enter your license number on the DMV's license check website, it shows as a valid license.  It also says  "Thank you for your recent driver license application. We are currently verifying your legal presence. Please allow 60 days from your application date before contacting us."  The DMV worker told me that if I didn't receive the license by day 50, I should come back to the DMV.  He scanned all the supporting documents so I'm assuming that someone has to manually verify the information before issuing a license.  I hope this helps someone else, as not even my attorney knew about this rule.

Yeah, its very frustrated process and one cant do anything here if you dont have a proper paperwork.

Why cant this law maker make it easier for  new immigrate to work and live here. Sometimes, I regret to come here but I love my wife and left my country for her. This whole process sucks! Atleast they shud allow us to get a DL but unfortunately its not the case

I tried it multiple times and went to local DMV office but they are not willing to help me. I guess it has got to do with State policy so thats the reason I couldnt get NY DL

I wish too and in Europe once you are resident, you are automatically granted work permit but here everything sucks when it comes to immigration process.

I just applied to several jobs and since I have a experience and double master degree in engineering field, I got a interview and then job offer but when they realized that my green card is in process, they chose not to hire me.They didnt want to wait for me.
