Hi!

I have filed for I-751 on Dec.13, 2015 to the Vermont Center. According to the USCIS website, Vermont is processing petitions from Dec.28, 2015. My online case status has not been changed and nothing is happening. I am about to start asking my representatives for help.

I have a bigger problem now. My Green Card (which has been extended for 1 year per I-751 confiration letter) is expiring in 2 weeks. That is also the date of expiration on my driver's licence. I have been trying to schedule an Infopass appointment, but it's virtually impossible. Infopass website only shows appt. times available within the next 14 days and there are never any available times! I live in Virginia, my USCIS field office is in Washington, DC. There's also another field office in my state, in Norfolk. I've been monitoring both for a while now and they're all booked all the time.

1. How else can I schedule an appt. to get a stamp in my passport? Can it be done via phone?

2. Are there any strategies for scheduling an Infopass, e.g. is there a certain time appt. times become?

3. If an appt. time becomes available in Norfolk, am I allowed to book it even though my field office is in DC? Would I be allowed to schedule an appt. in another state? I'm desperate at this point, I can't have my driver's licence become expired.

Thanks for any advice you might have.

I think there are 2 separate issues.

First for your drivers license, I don't think you need to show your green card to them. Technically I recall (esp in NYS) you need to prove identity with several documents the first time applying, however after you get your license or state id, then you just take that as you don't need to prove identity again. I would go to the DMV and say you need to renew and see what info they would need. (They may not need anything)

Second for I751 approval. I would schedule at a different office for extension. I would think even though your field office is booked, going to a diff office should be ok. I would think they see your case in their system. For example, if you had to move during the case being processed, then they should have a process to account for that.

I don't think it hurts to look for help at your local congress representative. Most have a link on their websites for immigration assistance.

Thanks digitalvx.

I am checking Infopass avail. appt. times in all surrounding states and there are none! I'm so frustrated.

I might try to go to the DMV as you suggested but I doubt they will extend my licence. It's not a coincidence the exiration date on my licence and the expiration of my GC are the same. When I was applying for my licence, the DMV checked my legal status carefully (they didn't just believe the NOA letter I showed them, they confirmed it was legit by sending an inquiry "to the Richmond office" and I had to wait a few hours for my licence to be issued).

Several people on other threads have said that the system seems to "refresh" itself at midnight... so you might have luck booking an infopass appointment if you log in right at midnight. It's worth a try!

And I'm so sorry that you're having trouble renewing your driver's license. If the DMV that you went to is insisting on checking "with the Richmond office" anyway, you could maybe insist that they do that to start with. You have legal status while your I-751 is processing, so that's the answer they should get if they call.

Good luck!

I wonder if you can try to walk in and see if they can squeeze you in.  I've read on here some people have had success with doing that.  Hopefully it's not that far of a drive that this could be an option for you.  I would try looking at midnight first as suggested.  I just read yesterday that someone had success with that avenue.  Best wishes!!

I was able to book an appt. in Norfolk tomorrow. Yesterday I was refreshing Infopass website almost every 5 mins and someone must have cancelled their appt. so it showed up as available. Now let's hope I get my stamp even though geographically my field office is in DC...

I did check Infopass right after midnight and there were no free times. I did just check the DC office and there were 3 days available next week. Go figure.
