Canadian police record while abroad

Applying for the K-1, just wondering if anyone has gone through the process of obtaining a Canadian police certificate while abroad? From my understanding, you can get your fingerprints inked in a certified local location, mailed to a certified company like Commissionaires, and have them take care of the rest and mail the record back to you. Has anyone gone through this process before? How long did it take and how much did it cost? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

EDIT: We would be applying for the police certificate while in China

When I got my police heck, I didn't even need to do the one with fingerprints. But then again, I had a clean record and no need to dive that deeply. I would contact a larger police office in a major Canadian city, and ask them.

Did you go through the process while you were abroad or in Canada? I would love to be able to go through the process without fingerprinting (fiancee has no criminal record) but I keep on reading that when abroad, fingerprinting is necessary

I did it here, but I have had friends do it abroad. I know some cities have services where you can complete the forms online and get it sent to you.

If you don't mind, could you elaborate further? I've read on other threads here that you must do fingerprinting while abroad, and just want to be sure that it is okay. Thank you in advance!

The city I was living in previously had a service on their police website where you could complete the check online as long as you submitted the right documents. No need for fingerprints. Do you have residency in a Canadian city?

No residency in a Canadian city, unfortunately, but police record still required because she has lived there (college student) for longer than 6 months.

Ah ok. Then you do need the fingerprints. A quick google search brought me to the government site that lists how to get it done abroad :)
