Filed AOS Package using my maiden name

Hi Everyone,

 

So I already sent my AOS package last week.  And still waiting for USCIS for the confirmation that they have received it.  Just wondering if anyone had sent their AOS using the maiden name.  I didnt know that I can already use my married last name.  Which was indicated on my marriage certificate.

How did your marriage certificate come to use your "married last name"? The marriage certificate is supposed to carry your maiden name.

[01/14, 2016]  - DAY 620  (day 1421) 10-year GC in hand

[02/22, 2017]  - DAY 001  (day 1826) (N-400) Mailed package to Lewisville, TX, via USPS overnight

[01/10, 2018]  - DAY 323  (day 2149) (N-400) Naturalization Oath Ceremony (5 years, 10 months, 19 days)

[01/10, 2018]  - DAY 001  (day 2149) (US Passport) Applied for US Passport, regular processing

01/25, 2018]  - DAY 015  (day 2164) (US Passport) Passport in hand (5 years, 11 months, 3 days from start of Journey.)

 

AOS, N-400, & PASSPORT FOR DAUGHTER [OF HUSBAND TO USC]

[06/14, 2013] - DAY 001 Mailed package to Chicago Lockbox via USPS overnight
[11/21, 2013] - Day 153 SSN and 10-year GC in hand

09/01, 2021]  - (day 3001) (US Passport) Passport in hand (8 years, 2 months, 18 days from start of Journey.)

I filed in my maiden name, and as a result got all my documents in my maiden name. To me, that's not a big deal, but in general it's better to file with the name you intend to use as your Green Card would be your first official identification in your married name.

You can still use your married name in social settings, but for anything official you'll have to use your maiden name. Unless you want to pay a ridiculous amount of money to change the card. I think you may be able to change it with removal of conditions.

Some marriage certificate have fields for both married and maiden names.

Once you get your receipt numbers you can put in  a service request to have it changed as a typographical error. Do it as soon as possible. Your Biometric might still show up in the maiden name depending on how fast it is but this can also be changed. Seeing how you have a marriage certificate that states the chosen married name you might even receive an rfe to clarify your legal name since this is different from what you've entered on the forms. Better take care of it right away.
