Green Card and Moving - Timeframe Issue

I am moving with my husband to WA in June.

We have been at the same residence in SC since I got here on a K1 in Dec 2013.

From May 3 to June 3-5, I will be in TX with him preparing to move with the other person we are moving with, sorting a new rental, packing, arranging everything etc.

I am an October 2016 ROC CSC filer, and based on their timeline, I'm guessing I may be adjudicated anywhere between April-July.

So I am anxious about if I might get called for an interview during this transition period for the month of May/first week of June still in SC when I'm in a whole other state about to move half way across the country.

If I did, could I change the interview date and location? How would I do it? Would it be difficult? I will file the online change of address as soon as my new permanent place of residence begins in WA.

Again, I have anxiety and panic disorder, and ADHD so this process is a big trigger for me and I worry about every possible thing that could go wrong.

Thanks for reading.

Yes, this is definitely anxiety-producing (even for me, and I don't have the additional problem of anxiety disorder) so way to be proactive to try to manage your nerves!

  • Do you have anyone in your current home town that you could use as a temporary mailing address? How about another one when you're temporarily residing in TX? Then, while you'd have to fill out the AR-11 several times, it's free, online, simple and you'd be absolutely sure you won't miss a notification while you're in transit. If you receive anything, make sure your friend/family member opens it right away
  • On the off chance that you get an interview notification while you're in transit, there are instructions on the notice that tell you how to request a rescheduling of your interview. It IS possible to get them to reschedule it to a different location, although they will have to physically send your file to the other office, so it will take a while (estimates on other sites suggest between 1-3 months). Also, make sure that the person who does the rescheduling actually cancels your former appointment.
  • You can also set yourself the goal of calling (and, yes, sitting on hold for AGES) USCIS as your moving date gets closer, to try to find out if any action has been taken. It seems like sometimes people can get information that has been updated on USCIS system computers. So you might be able to find out if your case has been assigned, or if an interview has been scheduled, etc, and you can plan accordingly.

That's just my 2 cents' worth. Hopefully, you'll be approved by then and it won't be an issue. But probably having a plan in place will alleviate your worries.
