My mom always did a basket for us when we were kids.

As adults she would send us something a little special if we weren't in town for easter.

Now that I live close by she does a special meal. But this year they are visiting my sister in FL and I am all alone! :(

But I think next year I will do a little basket for Chris. You inspired me *laugh* on having my first easter with Chris and a married couple!

Will have to get his mum to send me some goodies for his basket though!

Easter baskets are amazing... My mom still does them for me :) She was lazy this year and bought a soccer themed basket from Sam's club for little boys. I cant wait till he sees it! My only tip is LOTS of easter grass and use the smaller candy to bulk up the bottom!

Well, Feather :luv: has sent me a delish bundle of goodies...they should coincide with Easter! Yum diddly yum yum!

They better!! Do you get post there tomorrow? I'm a bit confused about whether Good Friday is actually a holiday over there or not... hope they show up by the weekend!

Feather also took the special precaution of getting extra chocolate, just in case of, uh... emergencies, or something... and so will mostly be spending this weekend raiding the fridge and stuffing her face. I am particularly pleased with the fact that I got some Flakes, which then broke (predictably) on the 2 minute journey back from the shop, and which I therefore deemed 'Unfit For Mags Consumption'. Which reminds me... must pay a little visit to the kitchen....

(edit... must stop talking about self in third person!)

And incidentally.... what's an Easter basket? I'm just imagining a basket full of chocolate eggs or something... is that about right?! Damn, I want one of those!

Ahhh poor Flakeys, at least they found a loving home....in your belly!

Easter baskets over here tend to be a basket (betcha didn't know that!) with mini eggs and chocolate bunnies, sweets and some little toys. They don't do Easter Eggs like the UK (sacrilege!). So sad...if only they knew what they were missing!

P.S. Yes, we get post tomorrow AND Saturday....sweet!

I have to ask, how do you do Easter Eggs in the UK? I lived there for a few years, but my husband and I never really did the whole Easter goodies thing. When I think of Easter Eggs, I think of colored, hardboiled eggs you decorate yourself with vinegar-based dyes.

Just thinking of that has made me a bit nostalgic. I'll have to see if I can pick up some Paas dye before the weekend. :)

 Just opened one of the aforementioned flakes, and it's coated in (unsurprisingly) chocolate... turns out it's a 'Dipped' Flake. Isn't that just the same thing as a Twirl, then?! All this newfangled chocolate is confusing me!

Anyway.... they don't have Easter eggs in the US?!?!? Seriously? Outrageous! They reallllly don't know what they're missing. We all know they're a total rip-off and that you pay about 1000% more for hardly any chocolate and a ton of packaging... but that's not the point. Easter eggs are great, cos you get a giant chocolate eggshell, and you can break it all into bits, and, and, and... chocolate just tastes better when it's in Easter egg form!

Hmph... I have some boxes arriving next week to pack some of my stuff in, I think I might have to put a few Easter eggs in there, so I can introduce C. to this (apparently) brit speciality a few weeks late...

And mm, Easter baskets sound good. Plus I'm assuming you can't get Cadbury's Creme Eggs over there, and they therefore won't be a feature of said Easter baskets... I haaaaaaaate Cadbury's Creme Eggs! (looked for nauseous green smiley to illustrate my point, can't find it).

Yup, you can get them. Hershey's make them under licence from Cadbury's. Taste slightly different but are edible in a creamy sicky kind of way...

Incidentally, I DID have one the other week and my hubby said I was the first person he has ever seen that managed to eat it without getting the creme filling everywhere. I'm a Creme Egg artiste!

On a sad note, honey left me several chocolate eggs as an Easter treat. I was being good and saving them until after Sunday. They were being kept at the very back of my kitchen counter, and all the children had been threatened with death, or worse no TV, if they so much as looked a them too hard.

The friggin' dog ate all of them two nights ago. She's fine, no ill reaction at all, but I'M ill as I didn't even get a nibble. :crying:

This place has some damn fine sales and they're quick too. My stuff came in 2 days. If you sign up with them (it's free), they offer free shipping at certain times over the year (this time being one of them!), so you can really stock up. Bit late for the weekend, but who cares when you eat easter eggs.

Last time I checked the Cadbury Creme Eggs distributed by Hersheys in the USA are actually made in England and imported (my theory is they don't sell enough to justify the machinery setup to manufacture them here - or should that be raising chocolate hens to lay them) like wise the cadbury fingers at Xmas.

I wonder if anyone has ever told Cadbury's back in the UK what a disservice Hersheys are doing to the Cadbury name by manufacturing chocolate that tastes like ###### under their name.
