Hey all:

I am beginning to prepare for the AOS interview with my husband (adjusting from a B2 visa) and gathering all our docs to show we have a bonafide marriage. There are great guides here on VJ, and other posts that outline what to bring, so I'm clear on that.

My question is how much do they care/want to see, past documentation. My husband and I have been living together in the US since July 2016 - so obviously all of our bonafide/co-mingled assets etc are recent. We have known each other online for 11 years (met in 2005) so I literally have 3 binders that have hundreds of emails and instant messages between us over the years, plus several scrapbooks I have compiled that include all the letters we wrote to each other over the years, memorabilia from the times we visited etc. I am just wondering if it makes sense to bring these things as proof that we have been involved for over a decade, or will the interviewer not care a bit and only want to see our co-mingling since my husband entered the US?

I just want to make sure I don't look super stupid bringing in way too many things that the interviewer does not want to look at! Thanks everyone!

That's awesome you have so much! Obviously what they are looking for is the concrete co-mingling of your lives, like finances/insurance/housing/bills, etc, but I honestly think it can't hurt to bring as much of that other stuff you mentioned.

Don't worry about looking silly, really I think the more the better. I've heard a ton of people say that the interviewer didn't even look at their photo albums, so yeah, be prepared for it to feel like you brought way too much. But on the other hand, what's the worst that could happen for bringing excess evidence? If anything, I would think it would help prove that you guys are serious about the interview and each other and doing your due diligence by the interviewer.

So my advice I guess is, obviously number one priority are those hard assets that they specifically mention in all the paperwork as proof, as for other stuff (albums, scrapbooks, etc) they might not seem super important/helpful but they also can't hurt to bring.

Thank you for the advice!! (I didn't get a notification that anyone had replied so I apologize for the late response) I have also read posts where interviewers only ask for a few things, and then others where they want to see everything, so I think I will take your advice and be over-prepared, because I know I would feel terrible if I didn't bring something and they asked for it.

Thanks again!
