Wow I cannot believe Good Friday is not a public holiday in the US..

So many countries not only have Easter Friday as a holiday, they even have Easter Monday as a federal (public) holiday.

Anyone know the reason...

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

A lot of companies give it off, but the ONLY Federal Holidays are the 10 official ones.

I'm a federal employee. The only Federal Holiday linked to Christianity is Christmas but that's pretty secular now. Good Friday is purely religious so there'd be a problem with Seperation of Church and State.

Gonna try again.

So when will they take Christmas back?

We can't call the Kids music concerts Christmas Concerts. They can only be called Winter Program. No religous songs only songs about "jingle Bells" or "Santa".

I get Good Friday off and Easter Monday so luck.

Yes I agree we are the most worked country. Work Work Work. Nothing ever closes for hardly any holiday here because we everyone can be what religion they want.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I wonder how many people know that the origins of Christmas have nothing to do with Christianity. It just was easier to make it a celebration of the Birth of Christ since it was already a holiday, albeit for different reasons. Yes Christmas is more or less a pagan holiday, which fits us here in the US pretty well since we celebrate it with quite a bit of consumerism.

I would be interested to hear your ideas on this. Christmas is the celabration of the birth of Christ. How can it be a pagen holiday?

I realized dhat many of my students only think Christmas is present time. They didn't know the traditional carols like "Silent Night". One of our students was dying and the class wanted to sing "Silent night" to him and I was told no. ahah.

I teach in IL and we have good Friday off and Easter Monday but not all schools here in IL get this Holiday off.
