If I understand correctly, you had previously registered to go to school full-time in F1 status.

You can't go to school part-time on F1 status. So if they thought you were still intending to remain in F1 status, that would be a problem in their eyes. So they have to terminate your F1 status.

fortunately, you'll have your Green Card not too long from now.

Were you officially accepted into an MBA program at that university with your F1 status?

Yes I got accepted to 4 other schools as well

Then this is the part of the puzzle that you are not understanding. A school accepted you as an F1 student. This requires much different level of admission than someone who is a citizen or a PLR. The school needs to understand that you are switching status, however - I do not know how that works as AOS is a sort of "limbo" state. You have two options:

1. Pull your admission and apply to all the schools again after you get your green card.

2. Fix your admission status with the university of your choice and ask them if it is possible for you to delay your start date. They may or may not agree to this. Schools all have differing policies regarding this request.

I know this was not your initial question - but you need to do one of the above to fix your schooling problem or it could cause you issues later in life. I will repeat what I and everyone else has said, the school cannot "cancel" your AOS or forbid your from marrying. So don't worry about that at all.

this is ridiculous. you don't need any permission from anyone to get married. I was on F1 visa when I got married and did not even have to report it to my school. when i graduated they called me to see if I was going to attend school for masters or If I am returning home. I told them I am married now and applying for my green card. they can't do anything about it. When your visa ends you become illegal and it is up to the immigration to deal with you, and not them.

right, you don't need permission from school to get married.

but wrong. You did have to report your change in immigration status/marital status. In your case, you had already applied and graduated, so they just terminated your SEVIS account when they found out. Why else do you think they called?

definitely. I think if he is married and is going to change his immigration status then it is his responsibility to let his sponsor " the school" know about it. I think OP went little over with the description of bullying. no Legit university does that. Perhaps to let them know about him changing his status but not him asking permission to get married.

As someone who works in academia, I'm wondering how you will fare in a graduate program. Yes - as we have told you multiple times you can marry and adjust, however you should have informed them long ago. Also, it's not their responsibility to follow up with you, it's yours. Finally, you never told us if you had an approved enrollment delay or gap semester. So what happens to your acceptance at this point - who knows. And schools have deadlines. If you don't stay on top of this and make sure it's correct it's on YOU, not the school.

I moved to another state and won't be able to attend the school anyway. Plus I got accepted to 4 other schools in the state that I am living now so as far as academia, I am not worried. As far as AOS, I did consult with my attorney and quote on quote "It's not my responsibly to inform a school of my life choice". However, I did inform the school that I won't be attending their school. They did not LIKE the idea of me attending another university. quote on quote

This will be my last attempt to help you since you clearly don't listen.

1. You are not informing them of your life choice but your CHANGE IN STATUS

2. Awesome. You were accepted into other schools. Let's hope they all approved a delayed enrollment/gap year for you.

I hope you drop your ego and recognize what has to be done to stay admitted to those 4 other universities.

This will be my last attempt to help you since you clearly don't listen.

1. You are not informing them of your life choice but your CHANGE IN STATUS

2. Awesome. You were accepted into other schools. Let's hope they all approved a delayed enrollment/gap year for you.

Source: PhD who not only works in academia now but worked in the office of international admissions at her grad school for 3years.

I hope you drop your ego and recognize what has to be done to stay admitted to those 4 other universities.

Although I can't see how your so-called help is a help (All you did was to use your "so-called" academic experience to judge me on what I should have done, and tell me how I should do what you want), I thank you for your help. It is not appreciated.

P.S: It is not my EGO. It is PRIDE. As many immigrants to this country, I worked hard to be selected into multiple schools. And you don't have to hope, they are begging me get my education at their schools.

Here's another tidbit of information: Students in F1 status who change school need to inform the International Office that they will be attending a different school so the school can transfer their SEVIS record. So if they think you're in F1 status (which they did since you didn't inform them that you were changing status), they need to know your plans to attend a different university, whether they like it or not.

If anyone searches for "AOS from student status - do I have to inform school officials", this is the takeaway.

No, you don't need to ask for permission to marry

No, you don't need to inform them of your life choices.

Yes, you need to inform them of your change of status - that you applied for AOS to become an LPR because of marriage to a US citizen.

Whether you need to inform them of your change of plans in attending school depends on the moment on which you inform them of your change in resident status - whether they need to transfer your SEVIS record to the new school, or not.
