Ford Compliance Letter

Hey everybody!

I finally got my visa after a longgg time coming (I originally signed up on this site in 2010!) and now I'm faced with the hassle of importing my car.

I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta. I called Ford Canada and they said I needed to talk to the dealer to get a compliance letter. Called the dealer where I bought the car (160km away) and they wanted to see the car first, so I said no, I'll just call my local dealer. Called my local dealer and they want to hold my car for 24-48 hours and charge me $350! I said heck no! Tried to call Ford USA (just to try), and they said I need to call Ford Canada. Cue a massive migraine setting in...

There has got to be an easier and cheaper way than this. Has anyone imported a Ford recently? Can anyone hook me up with a dealership that can just fax me a letter? I don't mind paying some money, but $350 is insane.

Just wanted to give an update. I called around to the different Ford dealerships in my area and found one that "only" charges $150 and didn't need to see my car; just needed the VIN. Had the letter ready a day later. I'm thinking I'm going to frame the compliance letter in a gold frame and hang it in our house once I move. Yeesh...

By the way, I tried to follow an old tip about going through a site called shopfordgear.com who used to offer compliance letters for $18. Note "used to." I emailed them and they no longer offer the letters.

You need the letter from ford Canada.  Why not pm the op for the name and number of the dealership?

Hi, just going through this myself. Unfortunately I'm already in the states and trying to get this letter. Did you get it done while still in Canada or in the US?

Thx!

R

Hi Randal, I did it in Canada.

Ridiculous. I thought it was bad enough that a local dealership in Alberta wanted $75 for the letter, this after the other local dealership blew me off. I got a compliance letter for my Suzuki motorcycle free of charge and in half the time.

Randal; you'll need a Ford Canada letter, but there's no reason it cannot be mailed to your USA address. Best of luck.

Ford charges for that? Lame. I got it for free from GM and Chrysler/JEEP/FIAT.
