How much time between marriage and AOS? What's the status until greencard reception?

How much time do we have to file the AOS paperwork after getting married? Does it matter if my alien fiance application is running out during that time?

What am I considered to be until I receive the greencard (e.g. permanent resident (already)) ? If I am not considered a permanent resident, what is my status? This is important because I am planning to go to graduate school in the fall and depending on my status I can apply for different financial aid.

You can file at any time after getting married. There is no time limit. You will be out of status until filing after which your status pending. You wont be considered an LPR until AOS is approved. But you may not get your greencard right away after you have been approved.

Please read the guides, they will be helpful to you!

You can file at anytime after entry, however its BEST to do it within 90 days so you don't get any out of status time. Once filed you will be status pending.

You cannot get financial aid while you are status pending, you will have to be a CPR first.

K-1 visa issued: 12/15/2006

107 days from mailing AOS package to receiving green card! Received 6/27/07 dated 6/20/07

Removing conditions:

mailed 5/22/2009

Recieved at CSC 5/23/2009

Check cashed 5/27/09

NOA date 5/26/09 - still not received

I-551 stamp in passport 6/19/09

Biometrics notice date 6/16/09

Biometrics received 6/20/09

Biometrics apt date 7/9/09

Biometrics cancellation notice 6/27/09

Biometrics apt notice date 6/26 recieved 7/7

Biometrics apt 7/22/09

Touch 7/22/09

Finally able to see online info 7/22/09

Card production email 8/19/09 date ordered 8/18

Recieved approval letter in mail 8/19/09 date 8/13!

Touch 8/19

Email stating approval notice sent 8/24/09

Green card in hand!! 8/24/09

Husband joined army and moved from San Diego to Ft. Benning GA! 8/30/11

Filed N400 based on 5 years of residency 9/12/12

Recieved email notifcation recieved package 9/19/12

Biometrics 10/22/12

Early Biometrics 10/04/12

In line for interview 10/8/12 for 8 days

Interview 11/20/12 PASSED!

Thats true however I was looking in to federal aid and they said no untill green card.

OK, thanks. That is kind of a bummer. I was accepted for the fall, but I probably will not having my greencard by then meaning no federal financial aid. :wacko:

Well, hurry up and apply. It is just the first week of april. Fall term starts in september or end of august.. you have time. Maybe you are lucky to get it in 2 months... or 3... or 4...

EDIT: Ok, never mind.. I forgot that you have to apply way before classes start.

Jan 9, 2010... 10 year GREEN CARD arrives.

May 31, 2012... Express Mailed N-400 application to the Nebraska Service Center for military spouses filing overseas

Jun 11, 2012... NOA date and Cheque cashed Day 11

Jun 28, 2012... Placed in line for interview scheduling Day 28

Jul 20, 2012... Email from USCIS London for info to schedule interview Day 50

Sep 1, 2012... Moved back to the USA

Sep 12, 2012... Email from USCIS London scheduled for interview/oath Sept 28th in the UK(will be day 120)

Nov 26, 2012... Had submitted change of addresses. Notification that I have again been scheduled for interview Day 179

Dec 1, 2012... Letter arrived Day 184 with new interview date Jan 4, 2013 (Will be day 218)
