Using Old Birth Certificates for I-130?

Hi everyone.

is it Okay to use a really old birth certificate when filing an I-130 form? 

My wife was born in California and she has not updated her birth certificate since birth..1990. 

I have been asking her to go get that old thing updated just in case it's not accepted, but she insist that it doesn't need to be updated #SheLazy 

so i need to know now rather than find out the hard way later. 

please no speculation or guessing... I need facts. Because where i'm from, if there is a new birth certificate the old one stays valid for about 10 years..after that some places won't accept the old one. 

so can anyone clear this up for me?

When filling my fiancé petition my California born fiancé used his original birth certificate from the 80's and it was fine. Most countries that I know of a birth certificate remains valid unless completely unreadable - such as having been put through the washing machine - or something was changed on the record - such as a missspelt name was corrected.

No worries. Make sure to include a copy of the front and back of the birth certificate even if the back has nothing on it, a few people have had an rfe (request for evidence) as they didn't include the back even when there is nothing on it.

I used my original birth certificate.....I was born in the early 1950's.....it is yellowish brown and almost crumbles apon touching it...like any historic document you can barely read it
