What's the best way to send money to Ukraine?

What is the best way to send money to a person in the Ukraine? I sent $70 with money gram and paid $9 to do so. The person to whom I want to send money setup a paypal account but I was unable to send it that way. Apparantly payapl wont' allow this to Ukraine at this time. Is there an American bank with a branch in Kiev, so that I could open an account there and make money available to this person that way? I tried Citibank, who claims to have a Ukrainian presence, but the customer service reps here in the US claim there are no Ukrainian branches. What about a prepaid VISA card and then provide the number to the person? I would like to avoid or minimize transaction fees.

Transferwise is the cheapest and safest way. I have a language tutor (thought skype) who lives in Ukraine and I send him money all the time. And they work with Privat Bank (biggest in Ukraine). First transfer is a little rocky - they'll ask you for proofs of ID and your bank account ownership. But after that everything is super fast. Good luck.

A lot of the prepaid cards you buy in the US like in supermarkets or gas stations can be used only domestically within US, they block any foreign transactions (even for online purchases) so if you will try this way, make sure prepaid card you buy will allow international transactions.

  • 12-03-2012: Made Service Request for I-485, because case is beyond processing time
  • 12-07-2012: I-485 APPROVED! 219 days since NOA1. No interview/RFE
  • 12-13-2012: GreenCard in the mailbox, done with AOS!

Lifting of conditions Timeline (09.04.2014 - 01.14.2015)

  • 09-04-2014: I-751 sent to CSC

  • 11-10-2014: Biometrics taken
  • 01-07-2015: Approved! Only 122 days since NOA1. No interview/RFE
  • 01-14-2015: GreenCard in the mailbox

Citizenship Timeline (09.03.2015 - 01.08.2016)

- 09-03-2015: N-400 sent to Phoenix

- 09-10-2015: NOA1

- 10-08-2015: Biometrics taken

- 10-28-2015: Case is in line for an interview

- 11-02-2015: Letter with Naturalization Interview Appointment

- 12-07-2015: Interview passed

- 01-08-2016: Naturalization Oath Ceremony, I'm a US citizen now!
