Im guessing for the following which don't apply to me, I would just write N/A next to it instead of checking it ?

5. Evidence in lieu of birth cert (I have my birth certificate)

8. Court and prison records (Never been to court or prison)

9. Military Record (Not in the army)

10. Divorce and Death Certificates (Was not married before my current husband)

12. Documents for accompanying child/children (I have no children)

Do I need to write why it is N/A like above, or N/A is sufficient ?

Congratulations on Packet 3! We too just received ours from Montreal - I was planning on putting N/A in the checkbox because like you these items don't apply. I'm going with the theory that it shows I've read and considered it, rather then perhaps having missed it.

I do have another question...and perhaps you've wondered as well.

Step one says fill out the DS-230 Part 1(which they included) and do 2 copies of the DS-156 online and print to send. Goos so far.

But I'm confused by the additional form DS156K(a single copy which is in the packet) . Do I send this in step 1 when I return the other forms?

I ask because on that form below question #5 - it says the following documents must be attached in order to apply for a fiance non-immgrant visa

  • my birth cert
  • child birth cert (if applic.)
  • police certificate
  • evidence of engagement
  • evidence of financial support
  • marriage cert (if applic.)
  • divorce decree (if applic.)

etc.....SOOOOO...do I send this DS 156K when I return the other Step 1 forms and do I have to send copies along of these things since they're already asking about them for the checklist?

Thanks to all who answer

Hmm.. are they supposed to be checked off though? If I don't have them but checked them off anyway just to get ahead in line, I would feel like I was being dishonest and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that at all. :S Hopefully I can just get everything by the time I get the checklist. Unless it is just to say ''I know that I need that and I am going to do it as soon as possible"

Just ensure that you have all those items you check off to bring in on the day of the interview. Send the checklist and whatever else Montreal requests right away.

I wrote N/A in big letters covering the checkbox when I went through Vancouver. I don't think it's a requirement either but I did it just to make sure they knew those things don't apply to my case.
