Dear all:
    The Medical examination center ask everyone who had TB record before must need a sputum culture, and they still requiring HIV testing for everyonenot voluntarily
     I will get the sputum culture result in 3~4 weeks I think.
     My fiance's income is ok, I just worried if the visa officer will be deny my visa by my health.

    I was born in Dec.1986, 30 years old now, had TB and Syphilis before, both cured.
    1. I had TB in 2002, about 14 years ago, got meds treatment 9months and cured;
    2. I had Syphilis in about 2008, cured, the Syphilis antibody still positive, doctor said no contagious and no need treatment;
    3. I found i was HIV positive in about Oct.2012 and take meds treatment until now, virus no detectable in my blood now.

   base on my health history, I worried a lot about if they deny my visa everyday, living in anxiety.
   I'd like to hear your opinion, and what i can do before the interview?
Thank you so much!!!

The medical examination procedure consists of a physical examination, an evaluation (skin test/chest x-ray examination) for tuberculosis, and blood test for syphilis. The vaccination requirements include vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices

Here is the list that will deny anyone from entering the USA if not curable at medical exam.

Communicable diseases of public health significance include—

•Tuberculosis
•Syphilis
•Chancroid
•Gonorrhea
•Granuloma Inguinale
•Lymphogranuloma Venereum
•Hansen's Disease (Leprosy)

Note. HIV is no longer used to disqualify someone who is applying for a visa.

Hello, You will not be tested nor do you need to disclose that you are HIV positive at either the Embassy or the Medical Interview. The physician might ask you if you want to be tested for HIV as a general rule. You can decline.

They will do a Syphyllis titer to be honest. You may or may not have antibodies to the bacterium. However, your physician who said you wont be contagious needs to provide records/treatment and a statement which you will need to show to the Embassy physician.

You will probably test positive for TB (latent positive depending on whether it is a skin test or a Quantiferon antibody test.). Again, you should provide written records of non-infectivity provided by your treating physician, medications take and disposition of any active TB. The issue is if one tests latent positive, I believe they want one of two meds (izo/rifabutin not rafampin in your case as you take HIV drugs) IF you dont tell them about you being TB positive in 2002.

Inbox me if you need more details.

PS: Just be prepared. They give you a lot of vaccines too...be watchful of that.

Thank you for your detailed answer for my questions, Thank you so much!

1.I‘m in China, only have 3 Medical center in China can do the Medical exam for K1, and I called to all, all answered to me must need do the HIV test.

so seems no right to decline.

 2.I'm honest told the doctor about my TB. Syphllis and HIV,  what meds i used.

   the two doctors didn’t ask me provide anything about TB and Syphllis, just asked when i got it and what meds i used;

  3.TB and Syphllis both cured now,  about 2 weeks to wait for the sputum culture result, i did a CT one year ago, the doctor said just  obsolete     pulmonary TB, and i have no any  symptom now, no cough no sputum and no chest pain;

  The doctor told me the next day after blood test, syphllis no contagious, syphilis titer is very low, and no need any treatment;

  I told the doctor i injected 4 times Benzathine Benzylpenicillin in 4 weeks, and latent syphilis.  she didn't asked me for any records.

4. I provided my hiv Confirmatory Report, meds records and CD4 cells and viral load test reports.

Anything else I can do now???    (My english not so good now, I hope you can understand).

Thank you so much!!!

Hi. As far as I know, it doesn't matter if you are HIV infected or not. Everything should be fine, and you should get your visa, but you should take a HIV RNA test anyway. However, I don't know about TB and syphilis. It's better for you to ask an expert, because it all depends. I hope that you will get your visa, friend.

This thread is from 2017 so it's pretty much DEAD.  The OP has not been seen around these parts since June of 2017 so I doubt this will be information that is current to them.
