Funny to watch everyone jumping on Timsdaisy.

If any of you were aware of VJ history, you might find that there are reasons that it might actually be good for the board to have someone who is an attorney state that they are not giving legal advice.

Yeah...which is probably why the VJ Terms of Service were enhanced to specifically address attorneys and any so-called "legal" confusion. Point being, there are less egotistical ways of providing whatever legal disclosure one feels the need to mandate to themselves (and I guess others): i.e. "Required Legal Disclaimer: Under law I must disclose I am an attorney, but I am not offering legal advice." Much more soooooooothing don't you think?

Oh, so you think I LIKE being a lawyer? When you tell people whatever you do, do they volunteer the best jokes they know about your profession? Unless you're a dentist, probably not. And there are lots of different kinds of lawyers. Some of them suck a lot, and they usually get a lot of press coverage. And since you remain unclear on the subject, there are required disclaimers I must make to ensure that there isn't even a whiff of me purporting to be an expert in an area of law in which I am not an expert. So whether you feel like I'm bragging - which I assure you, I am not - or whether you feel I'm massaging my own ego, I couldn't give a #######. I am going to protect my own license and that's that. VJ terms of service aren't a blanket protection for much of anything.

But thanks for giving lawyers so much credit that you think admitting to being one is somehow showing off. I don't think that's the case, but if you do, great.

Nothing against . . . .? Nah - starting a nice little flame war is never personal, right? Like the few here who have tried to passive-agressive their way out of seeming too mean by tacking on "no offense" at the end? Ha! Whatever.

And at least now I know where you get your information on lawyers from. Maybe try some old eps of Law & Order. Those lawyers still break the law and make stuff up all the time, but at least they kind of hint at some actual lawyering.

VJ, sheesh.

Maybe it's like the first time the Brits hear an American say "fanny pack" and piss themselves laughing, but TimsDaisy's disclaimer is boilerplate (that means "standard") for people in her line of work. As she said, it's not there for your amusement (but look at all those good jokes she gave us!) but for her protection.

Welcome to the Internet.

dont worry, many of VJs members are sharp-shooters, so keep your head down.

I don't understand exactly what you mean here--can you clarify?

Don't say that - there'll be plenty more you'll probably want to ask before you file, after you file, and all along the way. Don't worry about a bit of, erm, 'discussion' (totally irrelevant to your question) going on on the thread, that happens sometimes... don't let it put you off. VJ is a great place, really, and you (honestly!) will find tons of useful information and support here as you go through this whole process. Really! Oh, and welcome! :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I don't understand exactly what you mean here--can you clarify?

He was talking about when he first came here to VJ, it appeared he wasn't doing much reading of the basic material and was starting threads asking questions that he would have had the answer should he have read any of it from the start. He was bouncing in and out of threads asking the same question I think for the reason there were people reading that thread at the time. I couldn't help but notice it. He was receiving advice on most things. But people starting telling him to use the step-by-step guide, etc. So replies went from nice to downright telling him to actually look at it and read it. I told him he was doing a great inservice to himself by not learning even the simple aspects of what he was trying to accomplish. To sum it up, he disappeared for just over a week and came back to announce his NOA1.

That's what he meant by the "sharpshooters". The people who got on his ####### about all the questions. He has lived and now he's on his way with everyone else.

I'm not a lawyer. Nor would I ever want to be one. Who would actually care if I were, right?

My point exactly! You reading that TimsDaisy? Nobody cares!

Duly noted. Thank you for your concern. It isn't there for your benefit, it's there for my protection.

Best of luck in your visa journey.

And if anyone wants to start with lawyer jokes - at least make them actual, funny jokes. Taunts are tiring. Humor, however, is always appreciated.

Here, I'll start:

Q: How can you tell if a lawyer is well hung?

A: You can't get a finger between the rope and his neck!

Q: If you are stranded on a desert island with Adolph Hitler, Atilla the Hun, and a lawyer, and you have a gun with only two bullets, what do you do?

A: Shoot the lawyer twice.

Q: What do you call 5000 dead lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

A: A good start!

Q: How can you tell when a lawyer is lying?

A: His lips are moving.

Q: What's the difference between a dead dog in the road and a dead lawyer in the road?

A: There are skid marks in front of the dog.

Q: Why won't sharks attack lawyers?

A: Professional courtesy.

Q: What do you have when a lawyer is buried up to his neck in sand?

A: Not enough sand.

Q: Why did God make snakes just before lawyers?

A: To practice.

Okay? Want to get back to everyone getting visas now?

Good Sense of Humor!

Bobbie & Klaus
