Hi everyone a little over 5 years ago I became a permanent resident my son who has always being with me wasn't added to the original paperwork because the person that was helping us adviced not to (big mistake).. anyways his paperwork is at NVC but I got stuck in the procedure and now NVC closed the process. I called and I might be able to salvage it but my question is this.

Since I qualify to become a USC can I just add my son in the same paperwork?

Or would it be easier for me to become a USC first and "upgrade" his case.

Thank you in advance for your time.

no, that's not how it works

once you are a USC and your son has entered the country with the visa, if he is under 18, he will derive your citizenship

so reopen the case or re file, one of the two, he must enter the country with a visa, once you are a USC, as I said, and if he is under 18, automatically he will derive your citizenship

you still have time since he is only 14 but don't take too long

Thank you aleful, for your helpful response, I am working on reopening the case.

I didn't specify that my son is in the U.S. with me already, he was brought up when he was a baby, and has not leave.

Is it still the same procedure?

Thank you.
