Is there a way to see if you are in the SAVE program before waiting in line at the Social Security Office? I'm just wondering if I'm going to spend hours in line on Thursday just to find out that I'm not in the system yet. I just got my EAD card on saturday with an effective date of Jan. 19th.

You could try calling the SSA 800# and you might luck out and find someone that knows how to do it and is will to take the time to do it. I can give you the steps if you want to try walking the person through it.

1. Access the Master File Query

2. Select #7 and use 999 99 9999 as the SSN Enter

3. Next screen Select #3 Enter

4. Next screen type in I-94 number on second line (Admission number) Enter

5. That should bring up the SAVE info.

6. Check that your name is spelled correctly and has correct DOB and immigration status and most important has “Temporary Employment Authorized” If it has “Institute Additional Verification” have them try the A number. If that comes up “Institute Additional Verification” too, you are not in the system and it's G-845 time. If using I-551 should have “Lawful Permanent Resident -- Employment Authorized”

The other problem that I have is that I don't have an I-94 number. I just sent in copies of my plane tickets to show that I entered legally. I came here from Canada, so I didn't need a Visa to enter. Any idea what to do in that case??

What status did you enter with and what is your status now? Unless you have an I-94, I-766, I-688B or I-551 you aren't going to be assigned an SSN not matter what SAVE says. You have to have proof of work authorization to be assigned a work authorized SSN..

EAD should be sufficient for SSN to issue you a number. I-94 is not needed.

In the first post, OP states that they just got the EAD card. So it should be enough.
