Ontarkie, is the reason you can't keep them because they crow?  It isn't like they blast like an air horn or anything, I always liked the sound they made.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Yes the noise is so horrible  They get locked up at night no crowing till they get let out in the morning.

But it's totally acceptable to let dogs bark all freaking night non stop.

I imagine that living in a city they might become a nuisance to neighbors, sort of like a barking dog.

I called her daughter last night, but it went to voicemail. She rang me back this morning, on a break, but couldn't talk for long, and she can't have her cell phone inside work. She was really more interested in telling me about the cruise she is off on the end of the week. She is her Mother's child.

You sound like the nurturing type, rather like my daughter.  Some of us, myself included, just are absolutely terrible at elder care, even when it is our own parents.

Does she live close enough to visit her mother in the hospital?

Noise complaint with the police or code enforcement gogo!

Our neighbors have to take their dogs in when I cook, they always bark for food.

We are living with her. When I first came here, we were living in VA. We had a granny flat at my daughter in law's house, which we built ourselves, from the concrete pad up. I learned a lot about plumbing, and wiring, and sheet rock, we did it all ourselves. We came out here the following year temporarily to look after her 97 year old Husband while she had shoulder replacement surgery. We were meant to stay a couple of months. Then he got sick, and died. She asked us to stay a bit longer. Then she got sick and needed a pacemaker. Then my Husband got sick, and tried his best to die. Following his transplant, and prolonged recovery, we were ready to head back to VA. Then we find out that his daughter had lost the house to foreclosure. Well behind on the mortgage, taxes, and under water. She knew that when we arrived, and if she'd said we would never have invested in the place. She'd always wanted her father, well her adopted father, to come and stay with her. He was only over there once a year, at the holidays, and really didn't understand the situation well enough when he agreed to go there. So, no where to go.

For a couple of years, we really just had to stick it out here. He managed to get a VA Pension and when he turned 65 Social Security kicked in. We finally had the bare minimum to strike out on our own, and then the MIL started to go off the rails. As much as I dislike her, and as mean and predatory as she can be, I really don't feel we can walk away and leave her in the state she is in. I probably should, but I can't.

Some days I fell a bit put upon. From get up to lay down, it seems I am always at the beck and call of one or the other. It's really rather wearing.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Her daughter doesn't do sick people at all. At all. She came to visit my Husband in one of his ICU stays, and had to keep running out of the room. Hospitals and sick people skeeves her out big time.

She lives in VA, and she works at the Pentagon. She usually drops by here about every two years for a weekend. They do not get along. My MIL tells me she sent the daughter to boarding school because she couldn't stand to have her  her in the house. They have a long history, they are like two wet cats locked in a room together.

Her middle child, a son, died 5 years ago. He was the favorite, and he didn't like her either. He told me to watch my back, that she was a Class A Predator, and if I didn't stand up to her, she would walk all over me. She tried, it just didn't get her anywhere.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.
