Is this normal? I've been calling everyday and they won't tell me anything

Based on what I have read of others experiences, I thought processing at NVC once you got a case # assigned was only supposed to be a couple of weeks.

However, do bear in mind what has happened to us -- NVC did not even receive our petition from USCIS until 32 days had passed. That is an unusually long amount of time compared to everyone else's experience, which was 2 weeks max.

Believe me, I know it's nerve wracking waiting and not knowing what is going on!

Here is what I found out what packet 3 & 4 meant lol. I was so confused, hope this helps. :)

Packet 3 is the "Instruction Package" For standard processing, this is what the embassy sends out to Petitioner when it receives the petition from NVC. It shows you the links to schedule ACS & Consular Appt and forms to fill out like DS160 for K1 Visa

Packet 4 is the "Appointment Package" This is the package that has the interview appointment and the final checklist of what to bring to the interview. Usually the Beneficiary gets this one.

@geowrian or anyone else who may know.  1.  Before you are issued NOA1 what all is checked?  Is it literally just to see if you signed the check or is there more?  Getting ready to fly back to Africa this month for the 4th time in 5 months.  Thankfully the ticket was under $2,000 this time, but we are praying this is my last round trip flight without my husband.  If there is any chance of anything I may need, I want to get it while I'm there on this trip.  2.  Can anyone think of anything I should get as far as documents when I am there?  I've been praying since day one that we don't get an RFE for anything.  It was a 50 page document I sent in.

Only the basics....a check is there and valid, the I-129F is signed, the right form was filled out, the necessary forms are present, etc. I would imagine it's like an intake and data entry/image capture station that takes it in, not the COs. Incomplete or other forms missing a signature have resulted in RFEs. It has nothing to do with the content of the petition....just that the bare essentials to process it are there.

Have a good time! Save boarding passes, itineraries, etc. like usual. And take plenty of photos across multiple days. Proof on an ongoing relationship is beneficial for the interview.

Has anyone heard of any reasons I should be aware of when it comes to why a couple should get married at the start of the 90 days verses the end?  My family is really pushing for our wedding to not be soon after he arrives, but there may be reasons I am unaware of as far as paperwork and the next phase of this journey goes, that we should really try to have our wedding date be towards the start of the 90 days.  Does it matter?  Thoughts?

My fiancée's parents are doing the same. We are pushing back and plan to have the wedding immediately after she arrives (same week) primarily for adjustment of status (Green Card Application) purposes. Immigrants on K-1 visas cannot legally work until they receive EAD (Employment Authorization Document), which generally takes 90-120 days after filing to receive. If you apply for green card (AOS) and EAD at the same time upon marrying, the >$400 fee for the EAD is waived and you can receive an employment authorization card for your spouse as quickly as possible. You cannot apply for those two things until you are married. As it is, my fiancée (then wife) won't be able to work for the 90-120 days after we apply for AOS and EAD, and I don't want that 3-4 month time frame to become a 6-7 month time frame, as she will go crazy if she is unable to work and we both have careers we are trying to build. That's our primary motivation.

Met in college, reconnected five years later. Started a life together in America. ❤️

Everybody's circumstances are different. For instance,. some people can't plan a proper wedding in only 90 days, so they marry immediately and do a bigger wedding later. Others need to work ASAP or leave the US for whatever reason, so they need to marry and file for AOS right away.
