That's the right number. It's the immigrant visa line, but they treat K-1s under the immigrant visa category within NVC.

It's about 1-2 weeks before NVC will receive your petition. Once they get it, you can call to get your case number and such. from USCIS to NVC to embassy is roughly 30 days for K-1, I think.

Hi. Our case was approved already. However, this sunday evening, someone called me (i'm the fiance beneficiary) claiming that it is US embassy. This "us embassy staff" said that my ex bf sent an email complaining about me being a gold digger and a cheater. So what bothers me was the number who called me dont appear on US embassy website. And it was using a mobile number. Calling on a sunday evening. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the confirmation @geowrian! Yes we were confused as i've read somewhere K1 is non-immigrant petition. Good to know!

@Reboot1 so you may call the mentioned number! :) (603) 334-0700

Thanks!

The K-1 is a non-immigrant visa, as you read, but NVC bundles it in with the immigrant visas. Because....reasons? :jest:

Obviously fake... if you wanted to pursue it, you could put in a request with your phone provider to retain and track the number. Claiming to be USCIS staff would be impersonation of a federal employee. I'm assuming "US embassy staff" would fit into that or a similar category.

Edit: That said, I'd say just leave it...it's likely a scorned/jealous ex or their friend.

Thanks for answering, Geo. That's what we were thinking too. At first i thought it was real cause the person who called me sounded legit. She sounded professional and she has an american accent. But we realized it's sunday evening. US embassy is closed. And also, do you think US embassy would call a beneficiary to verify these things just because of a complaint? I was scared at first that it might affect our petition. Our case was approved just this Feb 15 by the way so there's no way it's been forwarded to NVC or US embassry already

Yeah, I understand being worried at first, but you did the right thing by checking it out and realizing that the story didn't add up. :)

Thank you so much. :) I asked my fiance to call the US embassy to confirm the identity of this caller too. I just wanted to know what people think about it. We thought it's a scam.

Really Art786? I'm a December filer. Life circumstances have meant that it has already been 14 MONTHS since I've seen my fiance. I would give anything for one of us to be able to just up and visit.

Sometimes visits just arent possible or realistic at all. We've been hit by continual bad circumstances. Sure i could send myself broke visiting my fiance now but then we wouldn't be able to afford for me to relocate in however many months this process ends up taking. We all do what we have to.

I have to agree... Circumstances we need to take while the petition is on process. Visits is impractical for us at the moment ($$$$ issues) as we're both working full-time and preparing more for the future than the wedding itself. Can't afford to be broke right now. haha Plus flights from west to east is not affordable.

We can do this. 14 months... i have to  applause you for it. We haven't seen each other for 5 months and it has been a roller coaster ride for us to the point that we almost pull out this application. long distance is not my thing. I'd die for another 6 months of waiting im telling you haha.

Stay strong!

Val
