Good morning everyone. I have a quick question.

I called the NVC this week and recieved my case number and an invoice number. He advised the numbers were just assigned the day prior. When I try and check the status through CEAC it says the case number is invalid.

I'm not worried about this but was wondering if anyone has any insight as to what I may be doing wrong or is it just too soon to check?  Thanks in advance

you need to be checking in immigrant visas not in non-immigrant

Hi guys. My CEAC status w/ NVC case # is changed to "ready" today (took exactly a week since I got my case number)

I just submitted the DS-160 already, and found the packet 3 online for my country, which basically includes 1) instruction to complete DS-160, 2) Form DS2001-HNK (Notification of Applicant Readiness) and 3) a document checklist

It states to return (mail or submit in person) the above forms to office "when you have obtained all the required documents [on the checklist] for the visa interview."

The document checklist includes items like police certificate and medical examination. Obviously it will take maybe another week or two to complete those, and I don't need to bring them until the actual interview. Does anyone know if it's okay to send back packet 3 without all the checklist items in hand already? I want to schedule my interview ASAP as there will probably be at least a month wait.

Yes - it is possible to send packet three without having all the items in hand - IF you can be sure that you will have them by the time of the interview date (and in some places it is possible to reschedule your interview if you need to).  Make sure that you can schedule your medical in good time - allowing enough time for the results to get to the embassy (in the UK they recoomend at least five working days between the medical and the interview - this will vary from country to country)

The police record check and the medical information can take a while - if you haven't already requested those DO THAT FIRST. You need to have an idea of how long those will take before you apply for the interview.  I was able to book my medical as soon as I had my number form NVC.  I had to have my police record for my medical and I got it just in time.  My own doctors weren't very helpful and it was difficult to get the information I needed to take with me to the medical (and even then it wasn't correct and had to be re-requested after my medical and in time for my interview - very stressful!)

Do your research into how long it is going to take you to get everything on the checklist - and then, if you have plenty of time before your likely interview date, If you are able to pick your interview date then I would say go ahead - when you know how long it will take to gether the information.  Don't guess it! Fiind out!

Lots of these things vary from country to country.  Check on your country specific forum for information on processing times for the police record and any other items you require.
