I was an examiner for the US Patent Office. I wonder if the folk examining our applications at USCIS go through a similar process like I did at the patent office. In the old days, the US Patent office had paper applications like USCIS has now. When an examiner requested applications to work on, we would physically receive 10 or maybe 20 applications on our desk at a time. The examiners would review the applications one at at time,  but we would do the easy ones first, because we were working on a production schedule, and not by the hour. The easy ones were worth as much as a hard one, and its human nature to do the easy ones first. And lets say an examiner ordered 20 applications to work on, but then went on a short vacation, was out sick, was out for any reason really - an application might sit in his/her office for days, maybe weeks longer than other applications with the same filing date that are being worked by examiners who are actually at work those days. Reviewing geo's graph, it seems something similar might be happening at USCIS. Not trying to knock the process. Just trying to understand. Those who know, please correct me :)

And does anyone know if the USCIS examiners work on production? IMPORTANT question!

There was a comment in the old thread about the adjudicators getting audited once a week and it sounds as if its something similar to your US patent situation.

Why can't you just go for the festival without the Visa?

Hey amye! I don't have any type of US visa at the moment, and since the festival is relatively close to the date I expect to have my interview (by May or June) it wouldn't be worth the hassle / money to make another trip :(

Expediting isn't a guarantee.  We attempted a medical expedite due to my partner having stage IV cancer with no success, although some people have been successful with framing a week's missed pay due to wedding plans as financial hardship.

Wow... I can't believe they would deny this kind of expedite request. That sounds like a very legitimate medical concern to me. :( I guess it depends on luck too.

Yes for k1. Unless I am able to make it to the festival with my k1 visa I probably won't be attending.

Yeah, I mean that I should get my k1 visa shortly after my interview. So unless I can travel my k1 to the festival (happening in early April), I won't bother to get an extra tourist or business visa beforehand.

Yeah, it's a mystery and we haven't been able to find out why.  On the bright side, we thought that without expediting we were in for at least another six month wait.  It was such a huge relief to come across this thread last week and find out it could be any day now :)

I'd consider myself a "earlier" Dec filer, actually. :jest: I sent my I-129F on Dec. 1 and it arrived 2 business days later.

Moving forward...I'm debating stripping out all the "approved" cases from my list soon. That way I can add in the last few hundred Dec. filers. I was keeping them in there for historical purposes and sometimes (very rarely), they are revoked or withdrawn after approval. Thoughts?

Hey Geo. Once again, thanks for all your hard work on this. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we really appreciate you! My thoughts on your idea to strip out 'approved' cases is that its a good one. I think the occurrence of 'revoked' cases is so low, that it would be more useful to see how the rest of December is moving along. Just my opinion though, I realise others may have a different one :)
