Divorced decree

Hello everyone! 

 

My fiancé and I are ready to start I 129f and I have an issue. My divorce is final I have the paperwork the attorney sent me with the filled date judges signature and the court stamp.. it is a black and white copy. It is not the standard divorce decree with the emblem on it.

 

I want to start the process asap but I looked up the process time on obtaining an original divorce decree or a certified copy and because California is so terrible on all facets of its local government the time is anywhere from 8 weeks to 6 months.. 

 

I wonder if I should just start now with what I have and submit the copy when ever it arrives. . I know I could get a ROE but I am hoping maybe they accept what I have..

 

Any thoughts?

USCIS only wants a photocopy unless they specifically ask for a certified copy. The photocopy should still show the signature from the judge though, which yours does. So go ahead and file your i-129f.

And don't forget to take more copies of it in case they lose the first one you send. Also know that they might ask for a certified copy at the embassy when your fiancé goes for the interview. So you should have a certified copy even if USCIS won't ask for it.
