Wow !! Congrats Illidan. That was quick. I really envy people with petitions to VSC.. I think once your petition gets forwarded to Mumbai embassy (I hope you guys are going mumbai for K3), I read somewhere that you can send them packet 3 within a week instead of waiting for them to mail the packet.

Thanks everyone for your help and best wishes on you peititons.

Can anyone else confirm that my spouse doesn't have to wait for the embassy to send Packet 3, she can send it soon as they receive the petition? Since i have already completed all the paper work needed for packet 3 thanks to this site and following link i can tell her to send it soon as the petition is received at the embassy.

Also for anyone one interested here is the link for Packet 3 and Packet 4 information for Mumbai embassy. I'm not sure where this information is available on other embassy sites but it should be there. Look under Immigrant Visa section.

Illidan, you can try calling the embassy and asking them. I'd like to know this as well!

Mumbai American Consulate General: (011) 91-22-2363-7407; mumbaiiv@state.gov

If you could mail packet 3's checklist in advance, I bet it would help shave weeks off the total time.

I just sent an email to mumbaiiv@state.gov. I'll let you now if I hear back. Do call them yourself, though!

send Instruction Packages-Packets 3 as soon as an approved I-129F

Oh man there's a whole new vocabulary involved! I was just getting my Ks AND Is down - now we're involved with PACKETS!

So start getting ready to send stuff to India, right? Since these both were approved today - which do I follow K-3 or I-130?

K-3 Visa

07/22/2006 - Applied for K1 - I-129F mailed to Vermont Service Center, VSC

08/02/2006 - Package got sent back requesting a different form (different revision). Proceeded to weep like a girl. Decided against fiance visa with newfound setback. Will wait for December wedding.

12/24/2006 - Marriage

02/05/2007 - I-130 sent to VSC and confirmed receipt following day.

02/13/2007 - I-130 NOA1 received

02/15/2007 - K-3 sent to Chicago and confirmed receipt following day.

02/26/2007 - K-3 NOA1

03/02/2007 - I-129F (K-3) sent to Vermont Service Center (from Missouri Service Center)

03/11/2007 - Received email notice: I-129F in VSC is now pending (whatever the heck that means)

04/05/2007 - I-130 and K-3 APPROVED! (email notice) (rec'd postal mail 04/13)

04/09/2007 - NVC received case (called 603 334 0700)

04/11/2007 - Shipped to Chennai.

05/17/2007 - Received confirmation of receiving package via postal mail in India with interview date! (took 36 days!)

06/15/2007 - Interview! VISA APPROVED!!

06/29/2007 - She's in my arms...

I recommend doing the K-3. Quicker route. You may opt for the CR-1, but, it requires a little bit more steps that you must do which may lengthen the processing time further by a 1-3 months.

I am going with K3 route because its quicker.

Next thing you need to do is start getting your I-134 ready and if you need a co-sponsor tell them to start getting all the information. Also start collecting phone records and other information on your side and tell your spouse to start gathering wedding photos, cards and other items that can be used to prove ongoing relationship.

I downloaded all the paperwork for the packet 3 from embassy website and i have a question about the case number it asks for. Where is the case number assigned that packet 3 asks for? Is the case number assigned at NVC or at the embassy? Also if its at the NVC how can i find out if the its been assigned and also how long does it take before the petition is sent to NVC and how long before its sent to the embassy?

I think it's the NVC that assigns the case number. According to http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/stats.php?history=90, it took average 27 days from NOA2 to Embassy receiving the case using around 600 data samples. After Mumbai Embassy gets the approved petition, it takes around 54 days till visa interview according to that same page (using "ALL time" instead of just the last 90 days). So, if we round up the nearest months, you're looking at 1 month till Mumbai receiving petition, and 2 months till interview date.

Good luck!
