Hello All, 

 

My Husband and I just ran into a bump on the road. He arrived into the states on a K-1 visa on 1/30/17. We married 1/31/17 and ordered his social security card on 1/31/17. We received the card on 2/6/17. He took his drivers test on 2/10/2017. We had no issues what so ever. We are done with the AOS package and collecting evidence of relationship. So we went to the bank to open a joint account since he has a government id, passport, and social. However, they declined us from opening an account because of his credit history. It's Saturday, so I tried calling experien and transunion, and it didn't work. When I go online and even on the phone to order a report, I can't because it doesn't match the information I am giving them. He has had this social for 6 days. We haven't moved, so the address hasn't changed. And his DOB and everything else remains the same!  Is it possible that someone else may have his same social? In either case, how important is it to show joint account evidence? 

 

I added his social to my credit cards. As well!

Credit history doesn't show up normally for 6 months. 

Also are you talking credit or bank account? You can open bank account at Bank of America and some other banks... he's added to your credit cards so check if they report authorized users as well... if he wants his own credit card you can start him off on a secured credit card at BofA aswell...

Clarification: He needs to have it report, making payments on time for connected credits  for 6 months... just having a social security card doesn't mean you have a credit score... 

 

Edit: sometimes you can get a score directly from one of the beuraus a bit faster than 6 months, most likely not online though....

You don't need to send any proof of relationship with the i485 packet. The only thing needed is a copy of the certified marriage certificate and that's it.

of course, if you have other things, you can send them and it won't hurt.

 

i think it's very weird that the bank didn't let you open the account. You should try going to another bank.

 

I've been here for over a year and my credit history is still inexistente with experian and such, but I've had a job for over 6 months, have a green card, have checking account, etc. I don't think it's worth right now for you to order a report and is highly unlikely someone else has his number.

Does the US citizen have any credit history? To be sure you can go to a bank and open an account and add your spouse to that account or any existing accounts you currently have with relative ease. If they don't want to deal with you, try a supervisor, and if they still don't then they don't deserve your business.  Now, if you're trying to get a credit card account or joint credit card account - and neither one of you have credit history, this may be a little more tricky. Try to get a secured credit card joint account. That will kick off his credit rating for starters.

We had a similar problem. My wife's SSN was to new and had no history. We tried a different branch.....and they opened up an account. Before we were married, Chase opened up an account with only International Passport....hope this helps

We tried opening a savings account with Chase. I have a chase checkings and a savings accounts my credit is 714 with trans and 698 with experience. I added him as my authorized user for my JetBlue and American Airlines credit card. I was able to go online and print out the authorize user section where his name is stated. 

On Monday we will try with BofA. I really wanted to send the joint savings evidence with the package to avoid an RFE of evidence since we have 0 wedding photos.

You won't get an RFE for that. Just have it if and when it comes time for interview :)

 

Also ask jetblue and AA if they report on authorized users... 

 

I was able to open savings and checking and get a secured credit card at BofA.

Meanwhile make sure you have plenty of joint financial evidence for ROC where it really counts.
They like to see mingled bank statements from inception of marriage.
