hi everyone!

just want to ask some info regarding what documents i need to bring with me at the airport when me and my kids will leave for the US, aside of course from our visas. I have three kids and i was never married to their father and the birth certificates of my kids don't list their father's name. I know I don't need any DSWD clearance to take my kids out of the country. But i have read somewhere that at the NAIA airport, the Immigration people would ask for birth certificates and CENOMAR from me to confirm i have custody of my kids and don't need father's consent? I just want to know if this is true, especially from those with K2 children, what were your experiences about this? And if they do need those documents, would they require originals or just photocopies?

I don't have yet our visas but I just want to prepare all the documents I may need as early as possible. Thanks!

I left Manila for the USA last March 4 on fiancee visa with my two boys aged 12 and 16 and the Immigration officer at Manila airport asked me for DSWD Clearance. I replied that it is no longer necessary if they are accompanied by one parent and I showed her the DSWD circular. She seemed surprised, then she asked me for the birth certificate and the annulment papers showing I have custody of the childen. I showed the originals and after a few minutes, she allowed us to travel.

It pays to handcarry original docs which you may not want to lose if your luggage gets misplaced or lost in transit. Also, remember the ear drops and some meds for nausea for the long flight.

I also brought some of the regular meds the children are used to because it takes about 1-2 months before you can get the children to their pedia, and medical consultation and hospitalization is more expensive in the USA as compared to the Philippines.

Bring something to keep them company during the plane ride, nothing with batteries though.

See you in the USA

Maria

Thanks Maria for this info. I will make sure I handcarry all my original documents. I'm getting excited and nervous as my interview nears. I am glad that I can turn to VJ'ers for important informations. It really helps a lot to ease my worries. Thanks again!

Hello All

Congrats to those approved recently. Safe trip.

My fiancee has been waiting for the packet 4 from the embassy. I have recieved a letter from the embassy informing about what I already know (K1 petition processed and schedules for medical/interview). This letter appears to be a copy of what was sent to my fiancee with her packet 4 (it lists that as an enclosure). Problem is the letter is dated over three weeks ago and she hasnt recieved this letter or the packet 4.

I was wondering, is the packet 4 sent by post or by commercial package company like DHL? I intend to contact embassy tuesday as time is running short for us.

Thanks for any thoughts.

hi! most likely they will use DHL. im not sure to the most remote area but i think its still the same... she could always call st luke's and have her packet send there. thats what i did and some of us here. and somehow the packet will still arrive at her house (not knowing when) but at least she got one for sure from st luke's. printing from the net is one option too but we need the appoitment letter so call st luke's. i truly wish you luck and everybody else who's going to have our most awaited moment. the INTERVIEW! God bless all!!!

Ok..i cannot work till I get EAD, which i would probably get after AOS is approved...but...

can an employer apply for a work permit for me even before i get married or applied/approved for AOS? I am just thinking that since i am an auditor here..i could find an audit firm in the US who is willing to get me a work permit since i already have a visa to get in the US. Some firms just dont want to spend more for petitions or visas if they hire me directly from the phils.

i hope this could work since i need to have a job badly even before wedding or AOS...

Try getting a flight with JFK as POE it will automatically give you permit to work until your I-94 expires without having to apply EAD, as its the only POE that gives the that privilege. I wish I had done that so I could find a job after a few days i got here in the US. Look up the EAD process on the USCIS site for better understanding. Hope that helps.

yes that's true, you don't have to apply for EAD if you enter through JFK, at least until your I-94 expires and by that time you probably have a job and then you could just wait for your green card, and from there i'm not sure anymore. we knew that before and forgot for a while when we bought the ticket and now im staying home all day long and waiting for the process that gives me permit to start working.

Here is the link EAD Info

hopefully though when il have my interview this july, we'll be able to get thru it and with God's help il have the green card right away so i could work or get a license...

on the off topic note:

my insurance doesnt covers dental services, so when i went to the clinic last wednesday i was really hoping they will do something about my tooth (too much chocolate in the US my molar broke and got some hole in it lol). so i told the doc that i think or im sure there's a hole in my molar so i need some filling. but nope he didnt do anything and have her assistant get a bunch of x-rays, put some plastic like a blade in my mouth (ouch :crying: ) then after that the doc came and told me, well i think you have a hole in your molar. DUH! did i just tell you that an hr ago? then a lady called me saying im done for the day and they will just call me for the next appoitment! now im pissed! they let me wait for 3 hrs expecting they will do something about it and in the end nothing happened except a bunch of xray which is not needed! and charged me $135 bucks for sitting there. lol. i wonder how much they will charge me with filling and cleaning today (assuming they will do something about it today). i complained to my husband that this isnt like this back in Phil and he just told me, well, your in America now lol

ok, lets say you do get your I-94 stamped if your POE is JFK. that would only authorize you to work until your I-94 expires ( 90 days after your arrival). after that you should have an EAD. IF you dont get your I-94 stamped at your POE, you can apply for an EAD before you AOS, but the EAD would expire with the I-94. since it can take 3 months to receive an EAD after applying for it, doing so before AOS would be impratical and waste of money.

Hello....

I have not been able to check on VJ lately. Got too busy with all the despedidas (farewell parties) left and right, 2-3 a day (lunch, merienda, dinner)! I'm pigging out! I think I gained 5 pounds the past week! Have to do last minute shopping for my US relatives' "bilins" still.

My next post will be made when I get to the US. I leave Manila on June 12.

Is is acceptable to use married name when filling out embassy or medical documents? I am in the process of answering forms available online or in softcopy (using photshop elements) to lessen the waiting time during interview (hopefully). Please advise.

To avoid confusion or delay, your surname should match your I-129F, passport and Ids.

PW temporarily signing off.....
