Manila Embassy Interview/Visa Status

Today is the big day! Few hours from now and I will be officially Mrs. David Cash, yeaaaa! I am so excited, happy and nervous. I hope I'll be able to walk to the altar with weak and woobly knees. I shouldn't have bought a 4" heeled wedding shoes if I had known I'll be this nervous. Oh well, I got my knight in shining armour waiting for me at the altar so I'll make sure I'll pass out right to his loving arms.

Hello everyone! Well, the wedding went successfully and wonderfully (ham and turkey buffet with cherry cheesecake dessert).

Now here's my question and I know this will sound stupid. I got all our paperwork ready for the AOS and the only documents missing are certified copy of our marriage certificate from the court house (of which, we will be working on today), vaccination supplement - I-693A (of which, we'll be doing on Wed) and David's 2006 ITR (since I submitted the original during my interview, we will ask for a copy from his tax lady). My question is, if we get to mail the AOS packet on the 25th of July (I am being optimistic and I'm working so hard for that to happen) and get there in Chicago 1 or 2 days after, are we really able to file before the fee increase on July 30th? I know I'm being stupid here, but I just want to make sure that our packet will not be returned and we'll be asked to issue another check amounting to $1100 once it gets there or to somebody's desk. I will appreciate any helpful advice and please bear with me.

Hello Mae.....

From what I read in the bulletin about the new fee increase, it only needs to be postmarked by the 30th, not actually received by that date. Having said that, I would still get it there as fast as possible. The reason I say that is in case there is any unforseen errors that might cause them to reject the return. I know I am just being overly cautious, but if the application is mailed, but returned and not accepted, the re-mailed postmark will likely put you outside the 30th and triggers the new fee. Remember, its not filed till its accepted but the postmark is the date used for the new fee. Hope what I said is not too confusing.

I know some people have sent it overnight mail, but I think there is a different address. I'm not sure about that because we sent ours regular mail. You may ask that on the AOS forum if you are interested in doing that. Otherwise, if you mail it at the post office on the 25th and get the post mark, there is no problem with paying the old fee. It will not be returned for the higher fee unless it's postmarked after the 30th of July.

If approved, will they allow you to pick up the visa that afternoon or the next day?

I only ask because I don't have a lot of vacation time left and it would be so nice if she could fly back with me!

When the USC requests to pick up the visa, it is usually granted. But may not be the next day. Could be a couple of days, up to 3 days sometimes.

Fely and I finally made it to our home after visiting with my mom for a few days. She's been in California for a week now, and is adjusting nicely. She is still not speaking much, but maybe that is a blessing . Yesterday her sister in Montana called and they spoke for over an hour. She also texts daily back home. We've been busy the past 3 days cleaning house, and she kicked the cats outside. Today we went to OSH and bought some plants to start a garden. Overall Fely seems happy here. The temperature is hot, so there's not much problem with the fact that she brought only shorts and t-shirts. I bought her a used iMac ($10) so she can use it to text and email her family, and I can have mine back.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing when I first read about the fee increases. earlier this month a friend was preparing an application. when I double checked info about the fee increases, I then noticed it was effective on the 30th.

hi! i just called the NVC and they told me that they just sent our papers to USEM. how will i know if my papers already reached USEM? or what number should i call?

Hello everyone,

Is it true that if you will be using a private courier (like UPS,FedEx) to send the AOS package, it will be mailed to a different address than sending it thru the United States Postal Services?

Ours was sent thru the postal office so am not really sure if the address differs using a private courier....my friend will mail her AOS tomorrow using either UPS or FedEx and she asked me about this since another friend too said address differs...

Congratulations!!!! Get used on your a new lastname. After our wedding the DJ call me with my husbands last name and it sounds odd at first. haha

Sounds like you're ready and well planned. If you want to save and if you can make it have your package postmarked before july 28, 2007.
