wow after catching up for the past couple of hours, i must start off by commenting on the youtube video. i was in shock to actually see that because i never really saw open gayness like that in mobay. on a few occasions walking through town my gaydar would go off but this is a first for me. my hubby was like nuff of them got in trouble for that and he used to got to school with one of them and beat him up all the time :o i think that there has always been a small underlying acceptance of homosexualty in jamaica, you can't be outright with it of course but they're family/communtiy members (like zeeks) and as long as they don't wear it on their sleeve, is like they can be around.

did one of you slip some of that vj water in my drink? apparently i too am pregnant, i guess we were trying but right now i'm in a state of shock that my life as i know it will never be the same. too soon but thinking ahead and assuming all goes well any advice on where to look for economical jamaican nannies in los angeles (i sense it will be like looking for a needle in a hay stack)

sonshyne thanks for the aos interview details, quincy is on my insurance but i guess i should put him on my bank acct, since he's not working i figured why do that, but i will now. as for the name change i don't want to change my name. i'm the last person in my family with my sir name so when i die so does the family name, do you think that's an accepatable reason to give them?

here's my story quincy is 21 and mature in some ways and immature in others but who am i to talk? he's from mobay, he knows your fiance by the way classychic77 (friend of a friend) and that's where i met him at a local rooftop party my cousin and i decided to go to on boxing day 2004 to relieve much needed stress from work and relationships. we acted a fool and had a ball knowing that nobody we knew would see us. in comes this guy with a huge afro like mine. we were the only two in there looking like that so he caught my attention from the moment he walked in. anyway after catching a break from all the guys trying to talk to us, he asked me to dance while i waited for my cousin to finish her drunken piss in the bathroom. without even looking at him i immediately said no and he was like alright then, which took me by surprise because i'm so used to them not taking no for an answer. at which point i did look at him and noticed that he was cute so i tried to redeem myself by complementing his higrade and asking him to share which he did but he wouldn't roll it so i was like damn he's kinda mean, which was intriguing to me for some reason. we ended up dancing anyway and exchanging numbers, i had it in my mind that it was just be a holiday fling and i would never speak to him after but i couldn't resist calling him upon my return to the us and started looking forward to seeing him when i would go to visit my parents. so we agreed to do the damn thing dec 2005 no romatic stories of engagement and now he's here. i consider myself lucky because thus far he has put to rest every fear i had about being in a relationship with a young jamaican man (money, cheating, age difference) and to think if that night his friend hadn't decided that he wanted to try to talk to my "brownin" cousin instead of me we would not be here today, i always poke fun at him about that.

Hey Ladies, Just a little joke to share. Enjoy!!!

Subject: Affairs

The 1st Affair

A married man was having an affair

with his secretary.

One day they went to her place

and made love all afternoon.

Exhausted, they fell asleep

and woke up at 8 PM.

The man hurriedly dressed

and told his lover to take his shoes

outside and rub them in the grass and dirt.

He put on his shoes and drove home.

"Where have you been?" his wife demanded.

"I can't lie to you," he replied,

"I'm having an affair with my secretary.

We had sex all afternoon."

She looked down at his shoes and said:

"You lying #######!

You've been playing golf!"

The 2nd Affair

A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters

but always talked about having a son.

They decided to try one last time

for the son they always wanted.

The wife got pregnant

and delivered a healthy baby boy.

The joyful father rushed to the nursery

to see his new son.

He was horrified at the ugliest child

he had ever seen.

He told his wife: "There's no way I can

be the father of this baby.

Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered!

Have you been fooling around behind my back?"

The wife smiled sweetly and replied:

"Not this time!"

The 3rd Affair

A mortician was working late one night.

He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz,

about to be cremated,

and made a startling discovery.

Schwartz had the largest private part

he had ever seen!

"I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz," the mortician

commented, "I can't allow you to be cremated

with such an impressive private part.

It must be saved for posterity."

So, he removed it,

stuffed it into his briefcase,

and took it home

"I have something to show

you won't believe," he said to his wife,

opening his briefcase.

"My God!" the wife exclaimed,

"Schwartz is dead!"

The 4th Affair

A woman was in bed with her lover

when she heard her husband

opening the front door.

"Hurry," she said, "stand in the corner."

She rubbed baby oil all over him,

then dusted him with talcum powder.

"Don't move until I tell you,"

she said, "pretend you're a statue."

"What's this?" the husband inquired

as he entered the room.

"Oh it's a statue," she replied,

"the Smiths bought one and I liked it

so I got one for us, too."

No more was said,

not even when they went to bed.

Around 2 AM the husband got up,

went to the kitchen and returned

with a sandwich and a beer.

"Here," he said to the statue, have this.

I stood like that for two days at the Smiths

and nobody offered me a damned thing."

The 5th Affair

A man walked into a cafe,

went to the bar and ordered a beer.

"Certainly, Sir, that'll be one cent."

"One Cent?" the man exclaimed.

He glanced at the menu and asked:

"How much for a nice juicy steak

and a bottle of wine?"

"A nickel," the barman replied.

"A nickel?" exclaimed the man.

"Where's the guy who owns this place?"

The bartender replied:

"Upstairs, with my wife."

The man asked: "What's he doing upstairs

with your wife?"

The bartender replied:

"The same thing I'm doing

to his business down here."

The 6th Affair

Jake was dying. His wife sat at the bedside

He looked up and said weakly:

"I have something I must confess."

"There's no need to, "his wife replied.

"No," he insisted,

"I want to die in peace.

I slept with your sister, your best friend,

her best friend, and your mother!"

"I know," she replied,

"now just rest and let the poison work."

So as far as how you would like to raise your kids, you may just have to compromise and in some ways raise them the way he would like also.

Its all about respect and understanding of one anothers culture in the end. (L)

 I know one of the "issues" my friend had when they had their baby was that he wanted to pierce her ears immediately after baby was born and she was totally against the idea. I guess it's very typical for little babies to get ears pierced in JA right away. Well, it was a big argument and they didn't do it. Now the baby is over 2 yrs. old and she wishes she would have gotten them done when she was a baby! Now she's at the age where she'll play with them or pull them out etc..

What do you ladies think? Since I'm having a girl, I'm sure this is going to come up soon in my house!

I don't know why there's a rush, yes it looks very cute...but, having to clean them everyday, make sure she doesn't pull them out, get stuck in something, lose them, swallow them, etc etc. I personally would wait until she was old enough to be able to take care of them herself. I wasn't "allowed" to get my ears pierced until I was in the 8th grade....my 1st pair.

With the circumcision.....since I was on assistance then and didn't get "approved" when my son was born, he was 18 days old !! It was crazy, he made no noise until they moved him from the warm table to the cold table.

Hmmm, well I'm totally fine with piercing my daughters ears when she is a baby but as far as the boys and circumcision thing.....I don't think I'll do that. I mean is there a medical necessity for it? What is the point? And actually as the boy gets older and becomes a "man", isn't it better for him to be uncircumcised? There's less chaffing that way as I understand.....but heck I'm no man so I really don't know. I just don't know what the point of circumcision is. I guess when I have kids I'll understand it more.

Marlita;

Circumcision is not medically necessary but it is considered hygienic. The foreskin can harbour germs if the "owner" (LOL) not take proper care and clean it properly. the foreskin can also become tight and when the person has an erection the foreskin does not roll back and causes discomfort and pain for them.

congratz....how far along are you??? trust me i know what you mean about the shock of your life...that is how i felt as well....about that nanny thing...just be carefull....ask a lot of questions...get backround checks and call every reference....trust me on this!!! also wouldn't be such a bad idea to kind of have whoever the person is stay over a couple of days like a weekend to kind of see how things go....if you guys get along and how the person is...also if you can i would try to go through some type of agency i know that they can be a bit pricey but most of the time you do get what you pay for....best of luck!

That's funny. I never knew any girl to NOT have her ears pierced when I was little. It was odd to meet girls whose ears WEREN"T pierced. Mine were done at 6 months. I think its a cultural thing...I may be worng. its not specific to Jamaicans. Many Black American do this...so do many Indian families its as normal as anything else to pierce your childs ears as a baby. I'd do it....I mean why not?

My brother had his daughters ears pierced around 5 months. There is nothing wrong with it and she doesn't even play with them. She is used to them know at 18 months.

Question for those that have their SO's here AND have been here awhile........how many can say their SO "changed" when they got here?

You know I used to accuse Tony of changing in the beginning. It took me awhile to realize that we just didn't know each other that well to begin with. We had only spent time together in Jamaica - while I was on vacation pretty much and he was surrounded by family and friends and everything he was used to. Fast forward to the U.S. and I have a job to go to every day, a house to clean, dinner to cook, and I'm surrounded by MY family and friends. All of a sudden, he is the one in an unfamiliar place with no job, no family, no friends and he has to adjust to the fast pace of the U.S. We can no longer just hang out on the beach all day sipping pina coladas and Guiness and planning what club we'll go to that night  Real life has kicked in and it's a rude awakening for both of us. So I think neither one of us really "changed" we just begin to see each other in different situations than we ever had before.

Oh man this is such an insightful and smart thing to say!! Well stated!!!!

Our situation was different. We really knew each other well after 9 years. Every trip for me was not like a vacation. It was hanging out with the guys and girls at their houses. Maybe going to the beach once if at all. I had seen all sides of my hubby. The only thing different is that at first I went to work and came home. When I was in Jamaica he always went to work and I had to wait for him. When he got here he already had a number of friends who lived an hour away. Think of it know after a few months he made some very good friends in our town and one neighbor who had been through this process 7 years ago and moved here from Africa and lived in Jamaica for a year for work. We have not changed one bit. Things got even better after 3 months when he started school and had something to do. The plus thing is to he loves my dad and even calls him dad. I think if you had know your SO for a year or 2. I would complete agree with Rhonda 100 percent!

My son was circumcised at 3 because he was having difficulty peeing.

I finally figured out how to do a signature now i just have to figure out how to put in pictures. LOL

When you figure out the picture part, let me know!!!

To insert a pic, you first need to host it somewhere like www.photobucket.com

There will be a link underneath it saying IMG code, click on that to copy

Shot3-4.gif

Then use that link in your sig.

If your image is already hosted somewhere, right click on properties and copy the full link.

Then put [ IMG ] at the start and [ /IMG ] (remove the spaces between the text and brackets) at the end.

Wow...well I see this post is ever growing and still going strong. Almost 600 pages and this must be like the 4th installment.

I never thought it would have grown so much over the last two years when I started it. I'm glad that it has become a place for all yankee/yardie couples to meet, chat, share advice and support one another. I know I've been really bad about coming in to visit but life has totally gotten in the way. There was a time that I was so engulfed by the immigration process that I guess once it was over it was nice to take a break. But don't think for a second that you all are not in my thoughts and prayers. I have a bit of news to share, Squito and I are expecting our first child in April. I guess another one bit the dust huh, lol. I remember when Rhonda had me at the top of the baby list. We should've put some money on it because look at how many others got knocked before I did, lol. Anyway, just stopping by to check in and say hello. Hope everyone is doing well.

xo,

Mooma Squitto
