I think one thing that always bugs me is people seem to think that once their SO arrives, all problems just disappear cause they are not together. While the LD issues disappear, new ones appear. It's a bumpy road. Worth it, I think. But, not as easy as you may envision it.

Yeah, they say the 1st year of marriage is the most difficult anyways. And that's NOT taking into account leaving your home and all your family and friends, moving to a new country, adjusting to a new culture, moving in with someone you've never lived with, and trying to find a job!

I know our first year was very difficult. There was more than one time where I didn't think we were going to make it. But it does get better! So hang in there, be patient, and learn to compromise and choose your battles.

Question for those that have their SO's here AND have been here awhile........how many can say their SO "changed" when they got here?

You know I used to accuse Tony of changing in the beginning. It took me awhile to realize that we just didn't know each other that well to begin with. We had only spent time together in Jamaica - while I was on vacation pretty much and he was surrounded by family and friends and everything he was used to. Fast forward to the U.S. and I have a job to go to every day, a house to clean, dinner to cook, and I'm surrounded by MY family and friends. All of a sudden, he is the one in an unfamiliar place with no job, no family, no friends and he has to adjust to the fast pace of the U.S. We can no longer just hang out on the beach all day sipping pina coladas and Guiness and planning what club we'll go to that night  Real life has kicked in and it's a rude awakening for both of us. So I think neither one of us really "changed" we just begin to see each other in different situations than we ever had before.

It would be interesting to know the ages of ALL our SO's when they arrived here.

I don't know how old my guy will be when he gets here...so we'll see as time progresses.

I was 26 and Tony was 28 when he got here. We're now 29 and 31.

Damien is a "label ho"

 So is Tony  I'm starting to think this is a Jamaican man trait!! Tommy, Nike, Puma, Timberland, ...... it's never ending! We went shopping at a huge outlet mall last spring and he was like a kid in a candy store. They had Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Tommy, Polo, Calvin Klein, everything you can think of!

I think the biggest thing was going from a "vacation/no worries attitude" to a "real life/work/responsibility attitude". Andre has a hard time realizing that what people have didn't happen overnight and it won't happen overnight for him.

 Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to say! And yes, that's the biggest misconception I think foriegners have of America. It's not easy and it does NOT happen overnight. Yes, there may be more opporunity here, but it takes hard work and time. Tony is finally 'getting it' now.

:ot: I LOVE HIS MUSIC....such a loss and tragedy

Reggae musician Lucky Dube was shot dead in a hijacking on Thursday in Rosettenville, Johannesburg police said.

Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said the incident took place at around 8.20pm when Dube was driving a blue Polo in the Johannesburg suburb.

She said Dube was dropping off his son in the area when he was attacked.

"His son was already out of the car. When he saw what was happening, he ran to ask for help."

The hijackers were still at large.

The boy was too traumatised to provide police with any information, Engelbrecht said. - Sapa

New Diary of a Gigolo...

Yes, I've read that one too. It's actually a really good story w/ a very surprising ending. Great author :luv: The crazy thing is that these guys DO exist. I think every single woman travelling to JA should have to read this story on the plane ride down!

I'm going to post it in a separate thread...because I agree that every woman traveling abroad should read it. Rhonda...I think you should pierce early too. I got mine at about 7 or 8 and I was traumatized. I never wanted to pierce another thing. I have seen mothers holding their babies at Walmart to get the piercing done. The baby girl is nursing from her bottle...then lets out this loud shrill...then it's over. :crying::unsure:

I would be highly upset. DL brothers are all over Atlanta...and there would just be no explaining why he is on a gay porn site.:o:huh:

My ex had a HUGE addiction to girlie sites...magazines...DVDs...you name it. I pulled the brakes when my 12 year old (then 8) found a magazine page advertising all these different ghetto girl sites and movies sitting in plain sight on the computer desk. He couldn't understand why I was so upset about him finding it! Whaattt????!!!!
