Mi know sey, mi aaa nuff a yu a nuh fren pon ya. But mek mi tell you someting. When you people a guh a Jamaica nuh buss yu head fi charter no airline fi carry sinting fi nobody. Most Jamaicans down there dont have any conscience. Everybody want dis and dat like sey yu a bill gates. From dem hear America dem start tink bout money and expensive clothes and boot. Let dem know seh farrin a no bed a rose, and life hard up here. Down there all when yu a 100 year old yu mumma still lef dinner fi yu and sleep and live free.

Vex if yu want, but mi know sey nuff a yu mother-in-law wouldn't luv yu if yu did live a Jamaica, dem only want if know seh dem pickney a get a buss and dem a benefit, when dem si unnu dem start show teeth an want hug up an boast pon dem neighbor bout dem daughter in law from America. Mi have sister to and mi nuh want si nobody tek her fi a ride. Some a you pon here a get used, as soon as as di man get di unconditional greencard, dawg naym some a unnu suppa, ole time gal or baby madda from Jamaica tek over. Save unnu strength fi dem days and nuh badda fi trace mi. Remember mi nuh seh all a unnu. It can be 1 out a every 5.

All who a seh who trace mi off nuh have no sense, mi try fi show respect, but mi jus love to talk the truth, so who dont like it...who cares, cause dis bway nuff fraid a no man, no gal, nowhere, no time.

Blessings.

Wow !..u really di come a better this time. And i do agree with u on the whole bringing stuff down for people. And the whole use thing to greencard happens to some and it's sad that u really have to watch out for it especially if u didn't know him/her from Jamaica..And while u are to be honest..u don't have to come off so harsh...

Well, the reality is, the subject is harsh no matter how you look at it. I agree that warning is a good thing to at least read. If there are signs, heed them. I know some who have been taken and it is not a pretty thing. Shame on anyone who uses someone like that.

I do think, though, that sometimes Jamaicans take a beating on this subject. Of course we hear about the bad ones, caused the devestated spouse shouts warnings in anger from the rooftops. But, those who are happily married, just move on to their daily busy lives and leave the internet and web sites like this behind. There are many, many happily married couples involving Jamaicans and visa, as well. We just don't hear about it.

So, while I believe in heeding warnings and listen carefully to other's stories, I also believe in trusting my own instincts all the same.

Shawn, I am glad to see you on here today. You have started a conversation and have interesting things to say in an appropriate manner. Thank you for that.

Right..but to get a point across u don't have to stomp on everyone involved..that's all...It is a VERY TOUGH subject...and people should follow their gut feeling....

I know what you are saying. I think my problem with the whole subject is people tend to lump all Jamaicans into this using us to get a green card lump. And, we all know that isn't true. It's easy to get mad at one group of people....say Jamaican men.....or, hell, yesterday, Jamaican MIL's.....and say they are all users and up to no good and all that. What we really mean is "in our experience, I've seen (heard) (experienced) (fill in the blank)" this. It just isn't always so easy to get it across to others.

When I read Shawn's posts or anyone else's on any subject, I look at them as having seen it through their eyes. I feel their anger, shame, hurt feelings, whatever they are trying to express, and I try to think what would I do in that situation? Sometimes I even think do I see any of those warning signs? Have I ever?

I'm strong and opinionated and I think for myself. So what anyone says on here may not make a bit of difference to me. But, I do appreciated everyone's opinions and I do heed the warnings. I don't think it's a bad thing to express all experiences and opinions, good or bad, nor to contemplate what they would mean in your own lives.

The glasses are all rosey before the visa is approved, and you are running on these elation fumes for a long time. Reality is not always so pleasent. It does not hurt to be forewarned on what MAY happen.

I don't really believe all that Shawn says. It may be true for some people in their sistuation. Some people marry for love and work adjustments out with the homesickness and everything. Some people in Jamaica love their life and would never want to leave and they only reason they would leave would to be with their spouse. If their spouse left them some would go back to Jamaica.

You ain't lying! Some of them come here and its just as hard as it was in JA. Not everyone wants to stay here especially when they leave all of their family back home and come to a country by themselves. My SO has no other family here especially none that he would consider living with and being around.

(L) -Gill

DWL....roooooollllllliiiinnn!!!!!! waaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee...I made the mistake of thinking my kids didn't understand the dancehall lyrics...until my five year old started singing the lyrics to Back it Up. So, now...it's Taurus Riley...Beres Hammond...Jah Cure and Turbulence (in love)....kikikikiki

*Off topic*....mi find out sey mi have wan herniated disc inna mi neckback. Mi ago look wan Orthopaedic specialist/surgeon next week...but mi go back tuh wuk tomorrow.

(L)-blessed love always,Gill

Thank you...I have decided not to go back until after I have some type of treatment from the ortho surgeon. I am literally in tears right now because I went to pick my kids up from school and this woman almost side swiped me. She got in the turning lane and as I started passing her...she whipped her card back into my lane...I had to swerve to miss her...and the jarring from the sudden movement hurt me so bad. She did all of that to make an illegal U turn in the middle of the street....right in front of an entrance to a gas station. I'm trembling...it hurts to take a deep breath. I called my boss and told him that I jumped the gun...and will not be able to return. :( :(

Listen mi, mi not fighting against nobody, but people stop living in self denial. Mi know alot a people whey only in dis ting only fi ketch a farrin, some even buy married. Mi did have one cousin who guh down fi guh meet dis man whey she claim she fall in love with, but is a good ting ting him did chatty chatty, him tell one a him friend seh is only a buss imma a look. One try it wid one a mi auntie to. investigate di person throughly, right now mi have a girlfriend in dis same mess.....man get him card, mek trouble wid har and gone......she alone haffi a pay fi di house and bills now. If yu even have pickney together, dat nuh hold man or woman. When dem guh back a Jamaica dem start boast seh dem have pickney a farrin.

Sometime ask yu self, look how nuff woman deh bout and dem nuh ready fi seckle down, until dem find a farrin woman dem propose same day.

Some a di same madda in law collect di money from yu husband....sometime a nuh fi har, a fi pay di work man dem whey a build him house down dere and yu nuh know.(di same mumma in law whey did a boast pon yu, di same one whey did a gaawn like she would a dead fi yu) And if yu bad yu guh down dere guh mek trouble, yu would get lick to yu weak or gunshot.

All mi a seh check out yu man or yu woman THROUGHLY, we jamaicans can pretend fi years.

Ole people sey......Di man whey sh.T a road nuh memba it, but a di one whey step inna it.

WOW!!! I am in total agreement with you on this statement. In my opinion, it is not discussed enough. Although noone wants to believe their loved one would do this to them, it is in fact a startling reality. In an effort to provide support and encouragement through this entire process, we often gloss over the fact that not every man or woman will be truly in love with the US Citizen, and will only be looking for a way out to support their family back home...including old girlfriends and children. The same can be said for a US Citizen having ulterior motives as well. I have heard women saying that they get them young so they can mold them into what they want and couldn't get from an American man. I have heard of women trying to control their husband with money, etc.

The sad part is that not all international relationships/marriages end because the immigrant partner got their greencard. However, just because it is that type of relationship, any other normal relationship issues will take a backseat to the perceived notion that the immigrant partner look for papers only. The divorce rates in America are astonishing between two American citizens. So, why can't the international relationships end for the same reasons? Why does the unfortunate demise of these relationships get pigeon-holed into one catergory? Why can't it be that the two realized that they were just not compatible living together, although they tried everything to keep their love in the forefront?

If the relationship ends for infidelity...it was because the immigrant partner got the greencard and started looking for greener pastures...or they must have known the new partner all the while.

If the relationship ends for domestic abuse...it was because the immigrant partner got the greencard and wanted to end the relationship.

If money problems end the relationship..why can't it be that it was simply money issues and not the greencard?

I love that we all wish to encourage and uphold each other going through this process. But, we should gloss over or sweep it under the rug like it doesn't exist.

I once rode on JUTA on the way back to the airport...and several African American women were on the bus with me...and they invited me into their conversation. They went on and on about their fine "boyfriends" and everything that happened on the trip. I asked how long that had been with their boyfriends...and all of them admitted that this was their first trip to Jamaica. When I asked them how they dealt with the attention from gigalos...they all looked at me like I had two heads and said what gigalos? I explained what I was talking about...and they all agreed that they loved the attention, and it didn't bother them at all. I became very angry at that point...because there were 4 beautiful women...some of average size and looks...and some a little larger than society accepts as beautiful...none of them were unattractive. I was angry because I knew that about 3 out of 4 of them had possibly been duped (not based on me picking one over the others)...and would do things they normally wouldn't do to keep the attention and the feeling of being seen as beautiful...and sexually appealing. I understand the hardship in Jamaica and the thought that breaking a heart or two versus not feeding family or yourself seems to pale in side-by-side comparisons. It just hurts me to know that so many women truly believe they have finally found the "one" only to find out later and a whole lot lighter in the pocket that they didn't.

There are no guarantees in the game of love or life. Each relationship, marriage and/or divorce will be different from the next. I truly appreciate the intent in your message Shawn...it was honest and full of geniune concern, as was your post last week. I just didn't like when you made it a personal attack on individuals after they replied to you.

Walk good mi yout.

Very well said Jawi! In times and in love, sometimes you just have take a chance. My philosophy in love is this...

"Better to have love and lost, than to have never have loved at all!"

Even with my idiot ex-husband, I still appreciated that relationship. 1st- because it gave me the two BEST gifts ever to touch my life...my sons... and secondly, because it was a learning lesson that I survived and came out stronger because of!

So WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in my mind every now and then do I think this could be a green card hustle...sure, I'd be silly not to. But do I trust myself and my Lord enough to know that he would NEVER give me anything that I couldn't handle...ABSOLUTELY!!!

I also know that I am blessed and have learned so many hard taught lesson about hustlers...My Kenny is 'THE ONE'!! (And yes yuh can check me in 2, 5, 10, 20 years (god-willing) and he will still my 'ONE'.

Love ya'll and Shawn thanks again for bringing up such a good thought provoking conversation today!

Blessings always (L)(L),

Gill

Jawi, mi dear, you are in my prayers. I can't imagine the sort of pain you are enduring. I hope you are able to find non-surgical options. You know we love you and we are pulling for you hon. (L)(F)

You guys have been some of the most geniune people I have met in a long time. *weepy* Thanks for all the calls and support. I know that so many other people are suffering a lot more than me...but it is very hard to keep smiling through the pain. I was overjoyed to finally find out what was wrong...I felt renewed. The doctor said he has never seen such a happy reaction to being told you have something that may require surgery. I'm not happy at all about possible surgery...and I will put that off as long as humanly possible.

I told the doc and my boss that I was ready to come back to work. My neck and shoulder said "uh-huh...right....well go without us then."

Fi real, Shawn drop some knowledge today and started a great topic. I remember last year, one of my mother's friends started talking about this guy she met when she went home. Because I know she always salt with things, I was worried about this relationship that she was getting into. She finally got him here on the K1 summer of 2006. Now, things not working out. Few months after he got here, him run up the phone bill calling him baby mother back home. Right now, she want him out, but is hell!

I agree as well......Shawn had some valid points. I personally know 4 women who got burned badly during this process and heard of many more horror stories. I also know men who admitted to using their wives to come to the US. And I met 2 women who used their Jamaican husbands as house-husbands and babysitters...they didn't want their husbands to work or leave the house...so it goes both ways.

One of my co-workers who worked at Embassy as a consular officer married a Jamaican man...they lived happily in JA for 3 years. Soon as she transferred back to DC...he took off soon as he got here....sad, sad story.

I knew some of these stories before I met Damien. It has not affected our marriage.

When people ask me about our adjustment...I am very honest. Sometimes I tell them about my friends who got burned during this process so they will know that it can happen. Everything is not always peaches and cream.

This is so sad but so true. The funny thing is that I NEVER n~e~v~e~r heard these stories until I was involved with a Jamaican man. Then, the stories came out of the woodwork. I had been told by my pedicurist (she would do the pedicures/manicures at your home) about the men offering their "services" before my first trip...but I didn't have any ideas of hooking up with anyone I didn't know...and I was in a 3-year old relationship at the time.

Oh honey :( At least we know what the problem is and can pray about it. Though I am unhappy that you aggravated your shoulder, due to that dumb ### woman, I am happy that you are safe and sound, though in pain. I tell you, one thing I have to say about learning to drive in Jamaica, I have learned defensive driving and to be aware of the eediat dem roun' mi! You really have to drive for yourself and the others out there, because they don't seem to understand that if they get in an accident with you, dem alone nah dead or get injured...Ole fart dem!!!

My dear ((((hugs))))).

Of course, everything will come back to them. It's just really sad to watch someone you know go through it. Of course, these things could happen if both parties lived here but the truth is...you have more to risk when you're sponsoring someone.

I always tell people our marriage could have gone either way...horribly good or bad. We only dated a year and really never got to know each other besides my fantasy vacations in JA. We agreed that we are two different people from when we were dating. Thank God everything is great and working out 3 years later. There are some "successful" stories.

Mi need wan cheap hotel lodging fe Ochi. Mi get wan ticket pon delta fe $275 ($325 afta tax dem)...mi going dung 12/30/07 - 1/12/08. I need the cheap hotel or lodging for the first 4-5 days. Mi neva realize everyting sell out so fast for NYE...mi did go the same time inna 2006 and mi had a great unit at Skycastles. I don't have the contact numbers anymore though. :(

I am so jealous  you'll be in JA for New Years!!! If you're looking for a cheap hotel, try Silver Seas. It's not much, but it has the basics and it only cost $50 night. I used to get a whole week for $300 - pay for 6 nights, 7th night is free. The beach there sucks but the pool is nice. And it's right in the middle of town so everything is within walking distance.

Why did I grab his new CD this weekend and got the SHOCK OF MY LIFE!

Tony bought his new CD while we were in Jamaica. I've heard the whole thing and some of his songs are pretty bad  That's all they were playing in JA while we were there - I must have heard it 50 times .
