Mi know sey, mi aaa nuff a yu a nuh fren pon ya. But mek mi tell you someting. When you people a guh a Jamaica nuh buss yu head fi charter no airline fi carry sinting fi nobody. Most Jamaicans down there dont have any conscience. Everybody want dis and dat like sey yu a bill gates. From dem hear America dem start tink bout money and expensive clothes and boot. Let dem know seh farrin a no bed a rose, and life hard up here. Down there all when yu a 100 year old yu mumma still lef dinner fi yu and sleep and live free.

Vex if yu want, but mi know sey nuff a yu mother-in-law wouldn't luv yu if yu did live a Jamaica, dem only want if know seh dem pickney a get a buss and dem a benefit, when dem si unnu dem start show teeth an want hug up an boast pon dem neighbor bout dem daughter in law from America. Mi have sister to and mi nuh want si nobody tek her fi a ride. Some a you pon here a get used, as soon as as di man get di unconditional greencard, dawg naym some a unnu suppa, ole time gal or baby madda from Jamaica tek over. All who a seh who trace mi off nuh have no sense, mi try fi show respect, but mi jus love to talk the truth, so who dont like it...who cares, cause dis bway nuff fraid a no man, no gal, nowhere, no time.

LOL!! i can just see Ms. Portia Simpson swinging her head to this one! I loved that commercial. It always had me on the floor.

You know Shawn you are speaking some knowledge yes, but you speaking it to lots of Americans, and some like negative things sugar coated just a bit.

isn't that the truth.....

OK....Nanny....was Shawn saying a friend or relative, maybe even an ex, of your SO just appears in the states? Is that the warning? I'm still a little fuzzy on what is being said.

Crazy story, Kelly. I am saddened by it really. Since you knew, did you tell your friend anything or not? If not, why not?

that is the way i took it....like your hubby's ex just happens to come to the states how would you feel???

Whats funny is that my husband works for an American based company that has offshore jobs in Jamaica. He has to deal with Americans in customer service all day on the phones so when he was going through training, they had speicific training showing the differences in how Jamaicans handle things vs, how Americans handle things. He would share his day with me when he came home, and you know what the training seemed dead on. One of the things that it stated is how Jamaicans are more straight to the point. They dont let you down easy. But Americans dont like to be told "no", and need negative things sugar coated to them first even if it is the cold hard truth.

Listen mi, mi not fighting against nobody, but people stop living in self denial. Mi know alot a people whey only in dis ting only fi ketch a farrin, some even buy married. Mi did have one cousin who guh down fi guh meet dis man whey she claim she fall in love with, but is a good ting ting him did chatty chatty, him tell one a him friend seh is only a buss imma a look. One try it wid one a mi auntie to. investigate di person throughly, right now mi have a girlfriend in dis same mess.....man get him card, mek trouble wid har and gone......she alone haffi a pay fi di house and bills now. If yu even have pickney together, dat nuh hold man or woman. When dem guh back a Jamaica dem start boast seh dem have pickney a farrin.

Sometime ask yu self, look how nuff woman deh bout and dem nuh ready fi seckle down, until dem find a farrin woman dem propose same day.

Some a di same madda in law collect di money from yu husband....sometime a nuh fi har, a fi pay di work man dem whey a build him house down dere and yu nuh know.(di same mumma in law whey did a boast pon yu, di same one whey did a gaawn like she would a dead fi yu) And if yu bad yu guh down dere guh mek trouble, yu would get lick to yu weak or gunshot.

All mi a seh check out yu man or yu woman THROUGHLY, we jamaicans can pretend fi years.

Ole people sey......Di man whey sh.T a road nuh memba it, but a di one whey step inna it.

WOW!!! I am in total agreement with you on this statement. In my opinion, it is not discussed enough. Although noone wants to believe their loved one would do this to them, it is in fact a startling reality. In an effort to provide support and encouragement through this entire process, we often gloss over the fact that not every man or woman will be truly in love with the US Citizen, and will only be looking for a way out to support their family back home...including old girlfriends and children. The same can be said for a US Citizen having ulterior motives as well. I have heard women saying that they get them young so they can mold them into what they want and couldn't get from an American man. I have heard of women trying to control their husband with money, etc.

The sad part is that not all international relationships/marriages end because the immigrant partner got their greencard. However, just because it is that type of relationship, any other normal relationship issues will take a backseat to the perceived notion that the immigrant partner look for papers only. The divorce rates in America are astonishing between two American citizens. So, why can't the international relationships end for the same reasons? Why does the unfortunate demise of these relationships get pigeon-holed into one catergory? Why can't it be that the two realized that they were just not compatible living together, although they tried everything to keep their love in the forefront?

If the relationship ends for infidelity...it was because the immigrant partner got the greencard and started looking for greener pastures...or they must have known the new partner all the while.

If the relationship ends for domestic abuse...it was because the immigrant partner got the greencard and wanted to end the relationship.

If money problems end the relationship..why can't it be that it was simply money issues and not the greencard?

I love that we all wish to encourage and uphold each other going through this process. But, we should gloss over or sweep it under the rug like it doesn't exist.

I once rode on JUTA on the way back to the airport...and several African American women were on the bus with me...and they invited me into their conversation. They went on and on about their fine "boyfriends" and everything that happened on the trip. I asked how long that had been with their boyfriends...and all of them admitted that this was their first trip to Jamaica. When I asked them how they dealt with the attention from gigalos...they all looked at me like I had two heads and said what gigalos? I explained what I was talking about...and they all agreed that they loved the attention, and it didn't bother them at all. I became very angry at that point...because there were 4 beautiful women...some of average size and looks...and some a little larger than society accepts as beautiful...none of them were unattractive. I was angry because I knew that about 3 out of 4 of them had possibly been duped (not based on me picking one over the others)...and would do things they normally wouldn't do to keep the attention and the feeling of being seen as beautiful...and sexually appealing. I understand the hardship in Jamaica and the thought that breaking a heart or two versus not feeding family or yourself seems to pale in side-by-side comparisons. It just hurts me to know that so many women truly believe they have finally found the "one" only to find out later and a whole lot lighter in the pocket that they didn't.

There are no guarantees in the game of love or life. Each relationship, marriage and/or divorce will be different from the next. I truly appreciate the intent in your message Shawn...it was honest and full of geniune concern, as was your post last week. I just didn't like when you made it a personal attack on individuals after they replied to you.

Walk good mi yout.

I am American...and I am STILL learning this lesson girl. I am in management...and I have been called over to HR a couple of times because I am straightforward and sometimes in staying true to my own personal truth...I can come off a little harsh. You should hear me practicing to sugar coat how to tell one of my employees that they are a lazy slack butt. I have never understood the need to complain about your workload (no matter how easy)...that you applied and interviewed for...like you don't have a part in your success or failure. Or, those people that only want to learn one or two tasks...then get upset because the company can't use them in a more "glamourous" position.

Trust me...surgery will be my last option...I don't want a scar on my neck for my wedding pictures (LOL a joke LMAO)...I think that it is small enough to try other treatment options. I am worried about being at work all day tomorrow in pain...but I don't want to exhaust all of my 12 week FML time (I have used 7 1/2 weeks already). I was so relieved that now the stupid people that handle FML/ short term disability won't keep making me prove that it is not in my head.

U really have some valid points, but we can't get away from the stigma b/c it does happen so often. What I don't understand is how people are oblivious or maybe in denial.

The exact thing happened to my sister, I believe that this has caused me to have problems with my fiance in the past because I'm quick to see "signs" even where they do not exist...

On the other hand my cousin marry a woman here and she is doing everything the break up the marriage after ten years and he is trying tooth and nails to save it, because he loves his wife. He has never cheated on this woman and has not even considered going back to the baby mama he left in Jamaica, but this woman is obsessed with the fact that this baby mama is now in the states on a work program that she just make the man's life so miserable, he wants her, not the baby mama.

She hates his kid who lives with them and tries to do everything to get the kid sent back to Jamaica. I would have left her it it was me, but he say he loves his wife will not leave. There are different sides to many stories, there are also women here who Ill treat the men they take here and men do the same, two many dynamics and variables to lump everyone under one umbrella, a large percentage of marriages here and in Jamaica end in divorce, stuff happens.

The best actors can't pretend every day, you are stupid if can't figure out that someone is using you, some figure it out but they choose to stay nevertheless, whose fault is it when they get used?

Who is talking about LUMPING EVERYBODY, alot of you guys fail to understand a simple argument. This thing is really happening _ and thats a fact_ you cannot change a fact no matter what your opinion is. Opinion is what you think. It will not happen to everybody and we all know that. Geraldine that man is a idiot to stand up to that shi.t, I gues he wear the skirt, on the other hand. I PUT THIS QUESTION TO ANY LADY OR MAN ON HERE. ----- WOULDN'T YOU BE SORT OF WORRIED IF YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE BABY MOTHER/DADDY FIND HERSELF/HIMSELF IN THE U.S. NEAR TO YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE? Let me first answer though.....I WILL THE HELL ON THE LOOKOUT.

OLD FIRE STICK EASY FI KETCH....RIVER ALWAYS RE-RUN ITS COURSE

NO! I don't think that man is an idiot. He is doing everything to keep his marriage and show his wife that nothing is going on as he should be according to the BIBLE and the commitment that he made to his wife and to our FATHER. So, I don't blame him for sticking it out because she is just probably over the top with her accusations and assumptions as I sometime am with my fiance. Yes the GC "run" is relevant but it doesn't affect everyone. It is essential to have an open line of communication with your SO. This type of thinking has affected me so bad that we got into many arguments daily about my assumptions and preconceived notions. I know that you are trying to inspire everyone so that we are aware but keep in mind that this way of thinking could mess you up as well. No one wants to be reminded about something everytime a situation occurs so its important to be some what open-minded and optimistic at times. You could do a thorough background search on your SO and be with him/her for years and years before marriage and an incident such a GC "run" occurs. You can be with someone for years and never really know ther person and what they are capable of doing.

First off, AlienUkGirl: what a beautiful and fine son you have!

Good luck on the upcoming reunions, interviews, weddings, and all that happy stuff!

Marlon and I have been crazy busy with wedding planning and preparations, thank God for my friends!

Everything has been great. No hassles, just be-bopping along and working my two jobs. I am loving having him here with me and the deep conversations as well as the laughter we have shared thus far!

I love and miss you my Yardie VJ family! No internet at home but hoping to remedy the problem soon.

I have a new email address:
