Does it really take two weeks for the SSN card to come?

Ours came in less then a week. I guess it depends on how busy they are at the time.

Last year, Andre wanted only clothes and shoes. For his birthday he wanted a watch. This year for Christmas he wants a chain with some bling on it and one other thing that I can't quite remember right now.

That sounds a lot like Tony! Only he wanted so MUCH bling that I split it into 2 gifts! I got him the chain for x-mas and a pendant for the chain for his birthday. He bought his own watch a while back, but I think he wants a new one soon. Knowing him, it will be something really expensive

Question- My hubby is missing cornmeal porridge. Does anyone know how to make it or have a reciepe? Thanks

How come he doesn't know how to make this? Andre makes it for me all the time.

Tony hasn't made it in YEARS. He says he doesn't really remember how to make it either - that's probably why he keeps postponing it

My hubby know how to cook that is funny! LOL I usually cook everything. Wait he can cook me frozen pizza, ham and cheese sandwich and mac & cheese. Your husband cooks that is wonderful. I wish his cooking expertise could rub off on hubby

Hello my lovely Yardie family! Hugs and love to you all (L)

Well I have been trying to keep up/catch up on the reading but I give up

Congrats to everyone who has made steps forward in getting your visas and to those that got their visa and their SO here already!

Congrats to Jax and Shauna on the future bundles of joy...I am sure you will be great moms (F)

Well things here are going good. I started taking another class to try and keep my foot in the door at college. It sure is hard to juggle it all - work and school and home life. A and I are still working on things and making progress. It is definitely encouraging to be making progress towards the better. We celebrated our 2 year anniversary last Thursday and it was great! Who would have ever guessed that 2 years has already flown by?!? I can still remember agonizing over those blasted forms and dialing a hundred numbers just to get to talk to A for a few minutes (yeah right like it ever only lasted a few minutes  ) Glad that it is fall...I love fall and all the events and the weather and leaves changing. It is just a great overall feeling. Well anyways nothing else is new around here...living life and trying to survive. Hope y'all are doing well!

Much Love,

Jamie :star:

Congrats Jamie on making it to your 2 year anniversary! All the best in the future! Much Love Jax

My last exam is the 14th so I was planning on hopping on a flight on the 16th but Air JA never has good fares for Christmas/New Years travel.

Has anyone ever flown Spirit?

I hear more and more people are using that airline to go to JA. I need to check out their fares.

Hey Marie, you seem to be in my neighborhood...I used Spirit a few years ago from FTL and I was scared out of my wits...the plane seemed a little old and rickety. I am sure they have improved since then, I heard they changed their planes. The biggest problem I have with them is the schedule (1 flight in and out of Kingston). In general I have been using Air J and last year, I ended up with a pretty cheap ticket going Dec. 23rd - Jan. 2nd. Unfortunately, it is not all the time that you will end up with deals with this kind of travel; I took a chance and won out in the end.

Good luck on your exams...my LAST exam will be Dec. 16th.

I forgot to share my good news...........

Andre's health, dental, and life insurance kicked in yesterday (Oct. 1st). He will now pay just under $50 a check for what I was paying $278 a check for, for the last 16 months. I'm nearly giddy with joy today!!!!!!

Congrats JG  I know you are elated.

ok ladies i just made some porridge incorporating marlitas idea! with the cream of wheat its very good i used cream of wheat, water, lasco vanilla soy milk powder, sprinkle of nutmeg, dash of vanilla and a few tablespoons of condensed milk its pretty good

See, easy as pie!

I like the cream of wheat version better than corn meal. Never really liked corn meal. Plus ladies, before you think about giving this to the babies, remember corn doesnt digest. You could have a contipated baby for real Thats why you should not use corn meal, but baby cereal for the little ones. Ever seen a baby poop out a whole kernal of corn.....cause they cant digest it. Actually corn is bad for you, but thats a whole nother story. Popcorn doesnt digest either!

Has anyone ever flown Spirit?

I hear more and more people are using that airline to go to JA. I need to check out their fares.

I used it to go to MoBay in February...they were really very good. The flight left from LGA ONTIME...got to Fort Lauderdale ON TIME...left FLL...ON-TIME and arrived in MoBay...ON-TIME! I also had all my bags and the flight is one of the earliest to get into MoBay so the crowds aren't too bad. But, someone told me they get frazzled around Christmas time and have an issue wid luggage arriving with the passenger. Plus, getting out of MoBay was a breeze. When everyone else was piled up by the AJ counters...spirit counters in MoBay were empty.

But, I tell you compared to AJ, I'm sorry to say, I will take my chances! I went down with them in June...can you say NIGHTMARE!!! First, we didn;t even use an AJ plane it was a charter North American plane...both going and coming back. Which left 1 and 1/2 late from JFK! They lost my son's suitcase...later found it in Miami and sent it down 2 days later! Then when it was time to go back. By the time we navigated deh HELL of a line to check-in, they were paging us to board the plane...oh and we got there 4 hours early. I would love to support my Country's Airline...but Customer Service is everything to me and AJ has ALOT to learn about Customer Service!!

Anyway...that's just my 2 cents!

Just to let you know Spirit isnt really worth the money cause they are an "a la carte" airline. Back in May they started charging $10 for every piece of luggage you check, and you can only carry on 1 piece. They give no snacks, no movie, no blanket, no pillow. So if you are on a long flight traveling from a far location to stay in JA for awhile its not very good. I'd go American-Airlines. AirJ is horrible with customer service. My sisters used them when we were in JA for the hurricane. They were so un organized compared to other airlines. My sisters were dropped off in NYC when they were trying to get to LAX! AirJ had no flights to LAX for a week after the hurricane and they were not accommodating to the people who were stranded. No air vouchers, no meal tickets, no room rates NOTHING but attitude from the AirJ staff and when I say rude I mean straight STREET! Jamaica Street! These chicks were acting like they were up in the parking lot or something. These were the ticketing agents....it was horrible. I think AirJ just has NO idea how to deal with a crisis.
