Have any of your SO's here in the US had to work with any homosexuals? If so, how did they cope with it?

I ask because Andre works with a new guy who is flamingly gay. Andre's having some issues with it. I keep reminding him that he's management now and has to be accepting.

Anyone else deal with anything like this?

I brought this subject up to kevin because my previous supervisor (and friend) is gay. I asked him how would he feel about working with a gay person and his response was pretty what I expected. He replied saying that he couldn't work with gay people(very adamantly). So, I went on to explain to him how his thinking was flawed (in a round about way) and that gay people (in general) have no desire to recruit people to their lifestyle...Bla bla bla...you guys know what I mean...so by the end of my education conversation he was "ok" with working with them just so long as "they don't mess with me (HIM)"

There is genuine hatred for homosexuality in Jamaica, I've heard people said that they would not speak to their own children if they turn out to be homosexuals, and there is a feeling that tolerance means that you condone the lifestyle and that you might be one too (as silly as that sound it's true).

There is not much voilence directed at homosexuals but there is much resentment. I experienced working with homosexuals IN JAMAICA. I kinda shocked at the openess when I came here first, even though I was never bothered by it, I just found it bit funny.

My second job was in the gap store when I came here and one of my best friends there was openly gay, I became even more tolerant towards the lifestyle when I worked as a personal trainer in a west village gym, I trained many gays people, made many friends there, I got used to seeing homosexual couples on a daily basis hugging and smooching, half the staff was gay, I'm pretty cool with the lifestyle, don't matter to me at all.

He has to stop looking the man a gay and just try to see him as a co-worker.

Ok Marlita if for some small chance plan A dont work for me well let me stop thinkin like dat! but if it do plan B is... i give myself 6 mos and im in JA too i would get married come home work 6 mos and bounce .... lol i cannot see me stayin here!!! without him sorry cash in 401k and im out...please lord what kind a job would i have and wait....how long does it take to get a jamaica visa or work permit next thought we would have to do that ok wait theres plan C....get married move to florida go back and forth! oh boy why cant we find love in the US!!! :) i go on vacation and never in a million years thought id find me here but here i am :)

LOL! Girl you crazy! But thats just my thinking too. Come Christmas I am either out of here or losing my mind. I'd rather be out of here. Once you are married in Jamaica its not hard to get a work permit, u just have to establish residency first or register a business in your name. Each one takes all of 1 DAY to accomplish! So I say just start looking at it as an option. At least try it for 6mons-1year! I mean why not?! Its way to crowded here in the US. I mean look at VJ! I just say make sure you leave the US with a plan on how to get back in the work game. Also go to JA with a work plan already in the mix. I am getting all that in order now. I think God is blessing me on this one cause its way easier than I ever imagined. I pray bout it all the time thouhg and so does my husband. So we figure which ever doors begin to open its all coming from God and we just follow. We both know its gonna be a harder life in JA, but if thats where God wants us we have to go there. He hasnt steered us wrong yet.

Question- My hubby is missing cornmeal porridge. Does anyone know how to make it or have a reciepe? Thanks

ok ur makin me hungry!~~~ i been on a porridge kick~~~

theres actually a recipe on the back of the Grace cornmeal package too i tried that one it was pretty good

Funny that you guys should mention cornmeal porridge. I've been bugging Tony to make it for me - I've never had it before! He said he would so I bought the cornmeal and some condensed milk. 3 months later, they're still sitting in the cupboard and I still don't know what it tastes like  I think I will try this recipe and try to make it myself. Thanks.

When he finally gets done, and I am starving, he gives me the bowl. I look at it an am like "hmmmm". I taste it and I'm like...."what the heck! This is basically cream of wheat just made with cornmeal!! Why did it take so long to make!?" So I say you can find a receipe online. To me it wasnt nothing special cause I been making my cream of wheat like that for years now. LOL!

I don't know if I've ever had cream of wheat.... Does the porridge taste like oatmeal?

I grew upon cream of wheat and grits so corn meal porridge seems so basic to me. Its jsut a standard morning meal. Had it before school alot. Its not like otameal though cause its creamier.

The funny thing about what you said is that I work at Old Navy part-time. ON is owned by Gap, Inc. Anyhow, one of the most openly gay people I have ever met worked with me there...it is a bit of a trend in that very tolerant company. We took Andre to 6 flags when he first got here. And, we initially lived with my cousin for a few weeks and he is also gay. Before Andre met them, he had HUGE issues with gays. Now, he's so much more tolerant. His friends and family do not understand this at all.

That being said this guy at work is really bugging him. I keep telling him he has a responsibility to be as open minded and tolerant as he can be. Especially in his position. Don't get me wrong. It's not like he's openly hostile or anything like that. I just wanted some advice on what I can tell him at home. If anyone had any experiences of their own that they could relate.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

I do have to say that all you "Black Friday" shoppers SUCK!!!!! I work at Old Navy and I Hate the friday after Thanksgiving with a passion. While you probably see bargains and fun, I see running around like a chicken with my head cut off, everyone crabby, and rude customers making my life a nightmare. The most exhausting day of the year. Glad it will be my last.

My husband picks up his own health insurance TODAY!!! Woo hoo. I'm looking at December 23rd being the last day I work two jobs. Looking forward to some weekends again.

While you are out doing your after Thanksgiving shopping, make sure you are extra nice to the people in the stores. They are probably having a rough day. Good luck on some good bargains!!!!

I have to say that I am one of those crazies!! Love Black Friday...last year I missed it cause I was in JA. ...I was screwed up for the whole holiday season! The best part for me is by 9am on Black Friday morning I am DONE with all of my Christmas shopping! I am a horrible procrastinated, so it works for me. Last year, I was running around on Christmas Eve, convincing myself that oven mitts were the BEST present for my Aunts (cause that's all they had left in the store  ) Never Again! Usually, I am one of those crazies that wakes-up at 1am to be on line by 2am anxiously awaiting Black Friday shopping to commence  !

Gill

We had $49 cashmere sweaters last year on Black Friday. Talk about crazies....they were literally tugging them between two people, pushing and shoving. It was crazy.

From working in retail, I usually just shop the internet and go into stores mostly for gift cards. Not a big fan of stores much anymore.

I will probably make you sick saying this.....since you are so last minute.....I am making all my Christmas presents this year. Over the years, I have dabbled in making some presents. This year, I am making nearly ALL of them. I've been working on them for months now. I will only need to shop for my husband, my kids, and a few misc. gift cards and I'll be well done with all that before Thanksgiving and probably do most of it by the internet and have them bring it all to me. I love my UPS man!!!!!!

I'm an online shopper too! I find better deals on Ebay ALL the time. So you can skip Black friday and just shop Ebay right now and literally be done b4 thanksgiving even gets here!

This was the same conversation I had with Neil. I explained to him that when he got a job here that he would more than likely be working with or around someone who was gay. His response was "Mi quit mi nuh wuk wit batty bouy"!! We fought tooth and nail for days about this topic. The end result was whatever just as long as they don't talk to me or touch me everyting cris  I also made sure to let him know about different types of harrassment, I want him to be fully aware of the consequences (sp?)of it.

One of my best friends is a gay man. Neil has been here for almost 6 moths and hasn't met him yet. He says he's ok with meeting him, but I'm not sure yet what his reaction wil be to my friend, and I refuse to let him hurt his feelings by being rude... So needless to say I'm not sure when or if they'll meet. It really kills me becasue this person is very close to me.

Man I say that about the Pepsi! I like a pepsi everynow and then when I'm home but in JA i crave it! Stopping at every little raodside stand to get one. Freakin out when they dont have any cold ones! I swear they put crack in the Pepsi down there, casue I am addicted to it!

:lol: i know what you mean!!! the only rice and peas i like is the way mike's mom cooks them....the other nite i was CRAVING it so bad mike made some...YUCK....i only ate a spoonfull....i was tempted to get on a plane just to get some....and the burger king in OCHI....like your golden hen...must be a golden cow they take the meat from....

Now, see, I don't like the hamburgers in JA. The meat is almost sweet to me. Like they put some sugar in it or something.

Me either  But I tell you what Burger King in JA has a killer spicy fish sandwich  And I do agree that KFC has some Bomb a** chicken

Hello my lovely Yardie family! Hugs and love to you all (L)

Well I have been trying to keep up/catch up on the reading but I give up

Congrats to everyone who has made steps forward in getting your visas and to those that got their visa and their SO here already!

Congrats to Jax and Shauna on the future bundles of joy...I am sure you will be great moms (F)

Well things here are going good. I started taking another class to try and keep my foot in the door at college. It sure is hard to juggle it all - work and school and home life. A and I are still working on things and making progress. It is definitely encouraging to be making progress towards the better. We celebrated our 2 year anniversary last Thursday and it was great! Who would have ever guessed that 2 years has already flown by?!? I can still remember agonizing over those blasted forms and dialing a hundred numbers just to get to talk to A for a few minutes (yeah right like it ever only lasted a few minutes  ) Glad that it is fall...I love fall and all the events and the weather and leaves changing. It is just a great overall feeling. Well anyways nothing else is new around here...living life and trying to survive. Hope y'all are doing well!

Much Love,

Jamie :star:

I don't know if they still do medicals this way but when A did his it was almost like a group medical. A bunch of people had an "appointment" at the same time and they would do the first thing to each person, then the second thing, then the third...so they are always waiting for the docs to finish up with the first thing on everyone in the group before they move on to the next thing. It seems like the medical is alway an all day affair.
