Thanks everyone for the congrats....The real issue is that I have to find a place for us to live and I am stuck. I would like to buy a house but I don't want to rush into purchasing a house. I really don't want to get an apt because that is just like throwing money away. Of course Melvin is putting pressure on me to come up but I keep telling him that I'm working on it. He is thinking that I could get an apt and then we both work on finding a house when he comes up. Realisticly, I know that it will take awhile for us to get settled and for him to start working. I don't know. Last night I cried on the phone with him. I am so stressed out because none of my family likes the idea of him coming up and me moving with him but no one wants to say it. All I keep getting is little comments like "are you sure you are ready to move in with someone because you know people change blah blah blah. I think I would feel so much better if they weren't sending me hidden messages and would just come straight with the real. Again they don't know that he will be here on a K-1 visa. So, I don't know----just confused because I love my fiance and at this point he comes first. I did tell him that he will have to wait awhile to come up because of the living situation but of course he wants to spend christmas with me and the new years which I don't blame him for. I want to spend it with him as well and hopefully he will be here by then.

I hear you about wanting to buy a home, but I would wait on that one if possible. You want him to get settled here, find a job (one that he's happy with), and just adjust overall. I think that the pressure of buying a home on top of still going through him being "new" here and the whole visa journey would be too much. Just pray and ask the Lord to direct your steps...

As far as ppl making their comments, let them chat. You love him and that's all that matters. If they can't be supportive then you may need to distance yourself from them. Focus on your man.

Well, it's after midnight, it's officially now MY BIRTHDAY They guys who work for me just brought me in a cake and a card filled with scratch off lotto tickets. Maybe I'll win big and I can retire

I have a 3 day weekend off work this - we're moving into our new house Sat. and Sun. so I won't be online again til Monday night. Hope everyone has a good weekend! Likkle-bit!

Had a docs appt today and baby boy is well, my fibroids have somewhat tamed and the cyst that I had to have lanced is slowly and irritatingly healing... life no easy at all mi a tell yuh I am thankful that he's okay but I am ready to get back to being at 100% health...sigh...the joys of motherhood. I have a follow up appt next week and then another the week after. If I could get a percent back from I pay them in my copays I'd be straight!

Why are you still having to co-pay??

I know my insurance requires a co-pay for my GP every time I go, but for pregnancy, I went to an Ob/Gyn who is classed as a specialist and it's only a one time $20 co-pay....

Dem too tief - mi nuh know why mi still haffi pay dem. Thankful for insurance (trust me on that one) but because I'm in the docs office at least once a week they are robbin me

I think I was reading about an interview that she gave and all she coulda talk bout was all the projects she have in the works. She flying up to collaborate with this one and that one, is jus a career ting she deh pon. To think the marriage fell apart before they even celebrated 1 year. It was too hype!!!!

Seriously, except for one or two words, I understand everything you guys write in Patois. I wish I could understand and speak it better in person!

You are too cute Rhonda. You got the translation perfect. Patois is not taught in Jamaican schools, and I have heard that the teacher frowns upon the use during learning activities. Of course, I didn't go to school in Jamaica so I can only go by what I have been told by Jamaicans in Jamaica. There is no right or wrong way to spell in patwah which is why a lot of Jamaicans will say they have trouble reading it, and it gives them a headache.

I have become acclimated with reading it and typing from another website. I have been a member for seven years. I can understand it spoken very well, and Jamaicans are only convinced when they hear me respond without saying "huh? What? Repeat it again? Say it slower". I just don't trust myself to speak it, and I am extremely shy in my small attempts to speak it because I don't want to be laughed at. Jamaicans already laugh at me because I have a Southern drawl...LOL...imagine me adding that and the Jamaican lilt. Would not be good in my opinion. LOL

When I first started understanding it verbally, it began from me recognizing words that I had seen written and sounded out.

I had the same experience you had with the guys talking about women and sex in patois. However, one guy was talking to my sweetie about me. It wasn't mean...but it was rude about what he would like to do with me. I was flirting with my sweetie and licked his ice cream cone, oblivious to the fact that this guy was watching.

My sweetie knew that I was going to defend myself...so he didn't say a word and just looked at me with a evil grin on his face. Then, when I went off and told the guy that he needs to ask his mother how he should conduct himself around a real woman and some other things I can't repeat here, my sweetie burst out laughing LOUDLY. He said he knew it was coming and he wanted to see the guy's reaction. Well, the guy was trying to apologize and so forth, and we all laughed about it and how shocked he looked when I responded.

Feel free to PM me if you want to practice with me. I don't mind. You can practice writing it by responding to me in patois, and I will tell you if it's not right or just a little off.
