Thanks everyone for the congrats....The real issue is that I have to find a place for us to live and I am stuck. I would like to buy a house but I don't want to rush into purchasing a house. I really don't want to get an apt because that is just like throwing money away. Of course Melvin is putting pressure on me to come up but I keep telling him that I'm working on it. He is thinking that I could get an apt and then we both work on finding a house when he comes up. Realisticly, I know that it will take awhile for us to get settled and for him to start working. I don't know. Last night I cried on the phone with him. I am so stressed out because none of my family likes the idea of him coming up and me moving with him but no one wants to say it. All I keep getting is little comments like "are you sure you are ready to move in with someone because you know people change blah blah blah. I think I would feel so much better if they weren't sending me hidden messages and would just come straight with the real. Again they don't know that he will be here on a K-1 visa. So, I don't know----just confused because I love my fiance and at this point he comes first. I did tell him that he will have to wait awhile to come up because of the living situation but of course he wants to spend christmas with me and the new years which I don't blame him for. I want to spend it with him as well and hopefully he will be here by then.

Hey Shonnie,

I know that your a joyful in knowing that the worst has passed. Though you are not adding to the equity of a home while renting, you will at least alleviate the anxiety that you could have paid a better price for a home when the market finally gets to the bottom. Because I also want hubby to have a say in where we live, I am waiting for him to get here to make any decisions on that. I also understand, "to see him and to live with him are 2 different things". The integration won't be easy, but you know that you love him and want to make it work.

Remember that this is your life, your decision to make. Your family loves you and want the best for you, but in the end you know what's best. Your own instincts will kick in; trust them when they do.

I wish you the best and I will be praying for you. :yes:

You know that live with part is a load of kaka. You would have the same issue even if he was from the same city as you. Living with someone is always stressful, no matter what the circumstances. Don't pay them no mind.

No lie...moving in with just a roommate, is stressful.

Shonnie - your family knows you plan on marrying Melvin soon, right?

Thanks JG and TAM. At this point I am just thinking to go with the easier route. I will be finished my master's next year and by then hopefully he will have a job and both incomes will be considered for the purchase of a home. I know that I don't want to stay in Philadelphia so that is another plus for renting and I should get another position with a greater education next year. I think I am going to rent. I am still relatively young. I just have to stop letting the family run my life because I am the youngest. My family sees me as this EXTREMELY successful person and that expectation is really hard to live up to. I love what I am doing at work and school but sometimes I think that they are constantly trying to catch me before I fall, particularly my mother. Its no fun and Melvin is so worried about me. He is in my corner 105 percent. He would just really love to come up and be a great contribution and to prove everyone wrong. I am constantly reminding him that we are not living our lives to prove anything to anyone but each other. To he\\ with everyone else!!!

Sorry guys...Just ranting right now and currently you all are the only ones that know of my situation and can relate therefore, I consider you as my outlet.

Thanks again and keep me in your prayers.

Shonnie - you both don't have to prove anything to anyone. Your life together will be proof enough. I wish you the best in your masters program.

congrats!!! Are you serious he is coming tonight. I cannot tell melvin that :unsure: . That is great.

Shonnie; take a page out of KK's book. Send for your man. You have struggled and stressed over this long-assed journey, and it has finally come to its fruition. This is your reward. Grab at it. It is time that you have that man in your bed beside you to wake up to every morning. :blush::blush: You both can struggle together. If you have one slice of bread youcan both share it. Happiness is worth that. No matter how meager things are at times, as long as you have someone to lean on, that always makes it better. You will be suprised how good having him here feels. :innocent::innocent: I don't know if you live alone, but I do and would give my "high teeth" to have Mike here with me right now no matter what anyone says. I met him in April and am convinced that he is the one for me no matter what my family says. If it is a mistake, let it be my mistake that I will learn from. I know our family loves us and wants the best for us and does not want to see us get hurt, but we all have to take chances in life.

:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Sorry for the long rant, but I am very passionate about us grown folks making our own decisions, no matter what the outcome might be. Who knows what the future holds? We have to live for today, like it was our last day and enjoy that to the fullest. :whistle::whistle:
