Hi Jomo!

Mi nuh get ie right de first time...mi marry pickney fe true....dis time mi marry a big man. My new man is my friend first and foremost...without a shadow of a doubt. We are putting God first, and following HIS path and direction for our life together.

Honestly, my soon2b xhusband decided that his unmarried friends (new Jamaican friends he met here) knew what was best for him to be a man in our household. Their word was bond...and mine was questionable until his "friends" confirmed it true. Instead of it being me and him against the world...ride or die, it was ummm...baby you were right because ray ray said xyz. To sum it up in a nutshell, I couldn't stay married to a man that I didn't respect or trust anymore. He has been stalling the inevitable because he suddenly decided he was ready for big man tings and wanted his family back. EEEHHHNNNN???? *kiss teet* Im tek big ooman fe bc eediat. cha.

Hello everyone! I'm a new poster to the VJ board. I have been lurking for a few weeks, mostly reading this thread. Before, I jump in with both feet, I figured I would give you a little info on me

I live in Atlanta, and I am in the process of a divorce (long awaited)....but a story for a different time. I went through the K1 journey back in 2001. During my timeline, USCIS was simply INS. Atlanta had to deal with the horrific waiting times for the Texas Service Center (sometimes two months before check cashed...even longer for a NOA). The group of us going through this process were not able to use a bullentin board like VJ...but we used newsgroups to keep each other abreast of the Service Center "real" processing times. Those processing times on the different sites, were laughable.

I went the ordeal of having people approved before me that submitted apps waaaaaaaaaay after me. My co-workers and I would literally sit on hold with the TSC for hours trying to get a rep...just to be hung up on. I finally contacted two of my local congressmen, to be told that they lost my entire file. Thankfully, I was one of the pioneers of the visa file with tabs, ziploc baggies, etc. LOL so I was able to duplicate the entire file in a matter of an hour using a fax number.

Well...I never thought I would subject myself to the torture again...but here I sit. Confused tuh rass.:help: I don't know what all the acronyms mean...I confused about which forms should be mailed to start the K1 petition...which ones should be sent later. Who in the heck is the NVC? When and why did the I-129f go from $95 to $400+????? Whaa de efff???

BTW...I am very very very good friends with Jonesie. I tried to give her hints on the process when she started...but all my tricks and hints were woefully outdated...LOL *I know that I can start from the beginning and read all the helpful linked posts on this process, but I wanted to get to know all of you before you disappear from the site* :D

Welcome, Welcome Welcome to this very wonderful and informative site that provides support and wise advice. I had joined initially to get info about the immigration process but have changed my mind, but have found a wonderful group of open-minded people who loves to share and provide a shoulder to lean on when needed. I consider them my family and will always visit this site on a daily basis just to feel their presence and share in their joyous journey.:thumbs:

Hey, Kel.

We talk via PM and you know I adore you; but I am going to argue with your comments just a bit here.

Anyone reading this now who has questions......keep those warnings about Jamaican men in the back of your mind; but they do not pertain to everyone. Kelly is talking about her own experiences and I do believe how hard they have been on her. She is a wonderful person for putting up with all she has.

Andre is not like she describes Craig to me. Oh, sure, he has his issues. But, he was never a playa of any kind and because of that, I do not face any of those kind of issues. Honestly, if I did, he would be gone cause I just don't put up with that stuff. I don't have maturity issues with him. And, he was raised to respect women. In fact, I argue with him that he gives his mother too much respect and benefit of the doubt (That is a whole 'nother story!)

The rules.........Oh, how you brought a smile to my face. We argue that issue all the time. What I do with that is say stuff like......"remember how the Holiday Inn laid you off whenever they felt like it, without warning" or "fired so and so without warning" or..............whatever I can think of......well, they can't do that here. There are laws. I do my best to explain why we have certain rules....pertinent to what he is used to in JA. And, of course, I agree with some of the stupid rules no one will ever understand. He gets it then.

How about peeing in the yard, Kel? Did Craig try that? Or walking down the street with the machette?

 I totally agree. Although Damien has been here almost 3 years...he is still "adjusting" to the American lifestyle -somewhat. He's always joking about going back to JA because of the rules and manners we follow. We are also still adjusting to being married.....marriage is about compromising.

Damien is probably one of the youngest husbands on here yet he is very mature. I don't have the time to "mother" a grown man. And we respect each other....we wouldn't be together without respect.

Yes, we have issues but nothing major. I have been nothing but honest about our relationship and share our story to everyone who wants to hear.

Woman, you are a much braver soul then I am. Don't think I could ever go through it again.

I hope all your questions are answered. Good luck to you.

Just realised that today makes 1 whole month since hubby has been here..time flies when ur having fun :P

WOW...That is awesome. It surely does fly!

I realised that now I am getting some pre-interview jitters and I am 2 weeks away! What a stress!

I kept thinking I was forgetting something the entire time. I wish you luck.

Kimmy.....I know what you mean. Andre's been here almost 15 months now. Feels like he got here last week. I always say, this will all just be a memory one day. It goes so fast.

We get tru!! Approved :dance::dance::dance:

The Experience:

Got there early, waited to get in until 12:30pm. First window 5A - Asked him to complete the DS 230 part 1 form. I think they just asked him to do that to see if he could fill it out by himself. Finger printed in Section B at window 15. The interview in Section C at window 21. We had an older white guy who approved 2 other people before us so we were praying that we received him. The two ladies at window 22 and 23 were very very very tough. They denied so many people it wasn't even funny.

Questions that were asked.

How did we meet? When did we meet? What was I there for for the first trip? Where in Jamaica was my family from? How many times did I come back to visit? What did I do for a living? How many people will attend the wedding?

That was it! The only thing is that they ask the questions so fast and if you stutter it may seem like you are lying. I had to tell Melvin to just relax because they are people just like we are. I was really reserved and mostly because I don't let those people intimidate me. I also do public speaking so that is advantage. We were so happy leaving there and people was smiling for us and just as happy right with us. It feels good!

He did make us raise our right hand and swear that everything was truthful in the paperwork. Then he tells me that it didn't look like I had much money in the bank and I was like well thats because I have come to Jamaica 5 times in the last year. Then he said you two kids enjoy yourself and hopefully you will be able to save some more money because you don't have to come back for awhile. He said congratulations and gave us the slip for Airpak.

So, we are thinking that he won't come for a little bit because he knows that I have to get us a place to stay. Airpak says 2 weeks but we know otherwise.

I don't think they will make it any earlier than that. They try to make the appointment 2 weeks before your interview from what I have heard. Anytime later than the 2 week window may run it really close for it to get delivered to the Embassy.
