It's good to hear that everyone has been able to make contact and all is well. It was pretty scary yesterday afternoon. I am sick of looking at the Weather Channel and "Your Local on the 8's" UGHHHHHH!!! :wacko:

Congratulations Marlita!! (L)

Rhonda -- GET ON THAT PLANE!!!

Same here for us :crying: Andre and I haven't been able to reach any of his brothers, mother, grandmother or aunts and cousins. God only knows how tired my fingers are from dialing all 33 numbers each time (yes I counted :lol: )

We haven't heard from any of Roy's family either....they are by Andre's in St. Catherine/Clarendon. Roy doesn't seem to be too worried so I'm (trying to) not get my "panties in a bunch" :lol: The last time we talked to them was yesterday around noon our time.....

Still no contact. Andre isn't too worried but their house still had damage from the last storm so he is hoping it faired well through this storm. I have read reports that Clarendon/Manchester got hit pretty hard and that there is flooding and a lot of buildings without roofs. Also the Denbigh gully/gorge flooded out into the houses around it. Hopefully they will get cell service soon.

Congrats Marlita!!!

Jomo - What type of work visa does he have?

Kelly - Congrats to your son!!! What an accomplishment! I bet you can't wait til he can drive himself all over the place :P

I'm not sure what that means? Is that job specific or what? Like I said, I'm not good on other visas.

Types of US work Visas:

H-1B classification applies to persons in a specialty occupation which requires the theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge requiring completion of a specific course of higher education. This classification requires a labor attestation issued by the Secretary of Labor (65,000). This classification also applies to Government-to-Government research and development, or co-production projects administered by the Department of Defense (100);

H-2A classification applies to temporary or seasonal agricultural workers;

H-2B classification applies to temporary or seasonal nonagricultural workers. This classification requires a temporary labor certification issued by the Secretary of Labor (66,000);

H-3 classification applies to trainees other than medical or academic. This classification also applies to practical training in the education of handicapped children (50);

L classification applies to intracompany transferees who, within the three preceding years, have been employed abroad continuously for one year, and who will be employed by a branch, parent, affiliate, or subsidiary of that same employer in the U.S. in a managerial, executive, or specialized knowledge capacity;

O-1 classification applies to persons who have extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics, or extraordinary achievements in the motion picture and television field;

O-2 classification applies to persons accompanying an O-1 alien to assist in an artistic or athletic performance for a specific event or performance;

P-1 classification applies to individual or team athletes, or members of an entertainment group that are internationally recognized (25,000);

P-2 classification applies to artists or entertainers who will perform under a reciprocal exchange program;

P-3 classification applies to artists or entertainers who perform under a program that is culturally unique (same as P-1); and

Q-1 classification applies to participants in an international cultural exchange program for the purpose of providing practical training, employment, and the sharing of the history, culture, and traditions of the alien's home country.

The most common ones are the H Visas. I would assume he has an H-1B. I really don't know but if he marries while here and adjusts status...as long as his visa didn't forbid that (some J/L visas do - the nanny/aupair/student) I don't see why he couldn't. I don't really know though to be honest.

I agree. They pretty much want to show proof that there wasn't any intent. I think it works the same way as a student and visitor visa. Just make sure he doesn't overstay his work visa and fall out of status.

Hello from JAMAICA!!

All is well, I am married and it was the most beautiful day in Negril from the last few weeks. We had GREAT weather despite the impending storm. There was actually not a cloud in site on the wedding day. Not one bit of even a drizzle of rain. The Hurricane completely missed our side of the island. Power went down last night about 6pm, but is up and running now, so no problem mon!! We had a generator in the hotel, so we were set. Was the most amazing experience walking down Norman Manley Blvd, in complete darkness and the trees blowing all about and not a soul in sight. For the most part it was just a heavy wind storm. We didnt even get any rain during the night.

Right now its clearing up and the "sun is shining"! I hear that the southeast side of the island got hit a bit worst than us, but still the storm was far less than what I have been reading on the internet. Prayers work wonders, and thats what we all have been doing here. Prayed for Gods favour for our wedding and HE blessed us immensely. Last night prayed for the island of Jamaica, and HE granted us.

Just wanted to stop in while I had internet access and say hello to you all. Keep us in your prayers and hope all your family and friends are doing well. I'll be having internet off and on with my laptop as I get in a Hotspot every now and then, so I will be sure to update our site with new pictures and video from our trip.

Talk soon!!

~M. (L)

I'll explain this picture lata, it has a funny story. :lol:post-30800-1187621909_thumb.jpg

Girl Congrats, I feel so happy and proud of you. I am very happy that all went well despite the threat of the hurricane. I am happy that you did not postpoe your wonderful and beautiful day. They say what is to me must be! I am sure it was all that you expected and more. I am smiling so much, my cheeks are burning. I feel like I know you because you have shared so much with us here on VJ. Happy dance :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

I want to wish you and your hubby all the best and long years of happiness together.

Well, hubby says he is going back to work tomorrow. Saw clips from Jamaica on our local Fox news network.

It's official - we got our interview letter today from the NVC. The date is in black & white - Sept. 21st :dance::dance:

Hope you have all been able to hear from all your loved ones at this time. Turns out there is a Tropical wave churning in the Atlantic and it seems to be aiming for Florida. I'll keep you posted as we watch this system and see if we are going to be in preparation mode for this storm. :blush:

I spoke to Marlon's dad today. He said he talked to Marlon yesterday during the hurricane, he was okay. His dad also got ahold of Marlon's sister and she, his mother, and nephew are fine. Clarendon was hit hard and the roads are a mess. I guess I will have to wait for Marlon to call me when he has a chance!

That is cheap, I wish I had access to Air Jamaica they always seem to have pretty good deals. The nearest location for me to catch Air JA is from Los Angles CA. I'm in Sacramento thats about 6 hrs away. By the time I catch a flight from here to there and then from there to JA, the cost would be the same as if I'd left from home. So what good is that?

However I did find a flight the 2nd week of Oct for $400, not bad :no:

Not too sure about your interview date.. But just a wild guess... Probably about 2 months.

Congrats and best wishes :thumbs:
