I have been listening to the Nationwide radio link that Jenice just posted. It's good to hear how calm everyone seems to be at home. I am happy that we are all here together giving support online while we go through this.

Hey Guys;

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone's family as well as mine who are in JA. We here in the states seem to be more worried than they seem to be. I spoke to Mike and my niece this morning and they both seem so cal and unconcerned. I just saw the weather channel news and the eye has actually diverted off to the south of JA and they are just getting the high winds and rain. Thank God for his mercies. We will just have to wait until tomorrow to see the real effect that it had on the island.

Tristan just checked in. The hotel that he works at called him in for a couple of days to make sure the guests are comfortable. He says the guests are partying and having a great time. The rest of his family is ok too

I haven't been able to reach the rest of my friends. I hope everyone else is ok and the damage to the rest of the island isn't as bad as predicted. He did say that there was a lot of property damage, especially to the roofs.

Well, I didn't go to Jamaica after all. I was all set to go but I changed my mind early Saturday morning before my flight was due to take off. I am really, really depressed. I was sooooo looking forward to this vacation. Tony is still down there! Thank God he's ok. I just talked to him at 11:30pm (Sunday night) and the worst of the storm has passed. I may try to fly down on Tuesday depending on how bad the damage is and if the airport is reopened.

Thank you everyone for your prayers. At least the eye of the hurricane never hit Jamaica. I hope the people along the south coast are ok.

No, that's why I cancelled my trip. My flight still flew down there so I could have gone, but then I would have been in the middle of the Hurricane the next day!!

I was wondering if you went. The airport should be open by tuesday and hopefully things will begin to come back to normal. Things happen for a reason and I'm glad you went with your gut feeling. Maybe the added stress wouldn't have been good for you even though i'm sure you were pretty stress here worrying about your SO down there. Have a safe trip if you decide to go.

My dear, I think we are all glued to our tv sets watching every report that comes in about Dean and Jamaica.

I know that's ALL I have watched for the past 24 hours I'm having flashbacks from the time Tony was still in Jamaica during Hurricane Ivan. My trip got screwed up THEN too I was due to fly in 2 days later and I cancelled because all the power was still out and the Embassy was closed indefinately.

The cell sites will be out too they run on electricity they may turn that power off too with all those antennas/wires and stuff could cause fire. I told chris and his fam to keep em all charged anyways.

Thank God I was able to keep in touch with Tony during the ENTIRE hurricane. I called him or he called me about every 2 hours all day Sunday! I was shocked that I could get through. I think he's using a Digicel phone (his cousin's). He also has his cell phone from here which is Verizon. It works down there too, but I didn't call it during the storm so not sure of that.

I know they shut down all the electrical and water before the hurricane - helps avoid more damage and it's safer in case the lines come down. Don't know how the cell phone still worked.

I'm thinking of flying down to JA tomorrow to salvage some of my vacation. What do you guys think? Does anyone know what type of damage occurred? Or when the airport will reopen? Any information would be helpful
