Question on Jamaican birth certificates

Me and my fiance are marrying in JA. One of the items needed to get our marriage certificate is a copy of our respective birth certificates. It also says that BC's should have the name of the father on them. My fiance BC doesnt have his fathers name on it. His father is deceased now. Is there something that we need to do to make sure his BC is ok for the wedding date? :help:

I know at one time fathers name wasn't required but now they are. However, if it doesn't have it I think it should be ok. We got married at my sister-in-law church in Mandeville and we didnt' have to provide any documentation. Maybe you can bring the death cert so show why his name wasn't on the new birth cert. Just a thought.

Are you getting his passport renewed from the states? Andre's expires in 2009 and, thinking ahead, I am wondering if we can do this or if we have to do it while in JA

Yeah. Roy's expires next January......I need to do a "bit" more research but it looks like you do it from here -- send it (with all the necessary info and $$$) to the Jamaican Embassy in Washington. They handle it from there. I <believe> you need the old passport, two pictures, birth certificate, the "form" and, of course, the $$$$$ I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Yea it's not hard to obtain. Just make sure you do it as far in advance as possible. A friend of mines went down last month and applied for his passport three months ahead. She didn't get the passport in time so they gave her "emergency travel docs" and when she went to JA she picked up the passport to travel back b/c she was unable to travel on the emergency docs she had.

I know everyone has their own frustrations....Bert's work permits expires today. The good thing is that he has been here for 3 months already. The bad thing is his job. Today is his last day. They have been touching the AOS like crazy but not touches in almost a month for his EAD. We just want one of them approved, don't care which one.

Just my vent for today..........

My AOS and EAD are going the same way  . No touches since it was transfered to CSC. Bert most likely will get his

green card and no EAD  . Just more extra money for the government without any kind of refund.

So is it even worth it to file for EAD? Although, if the changes are as they say, they may all be rolled into one, anyway.

Just starting the journey, haven't yet filed... Until today(2/12/07)!

Good morning!!

Rhonda -- TAKE ME OFF the baby list!! Lola puked on my arm yesterday while we were driving Roy to work -- I told him that I can't even handle a dog puking how could I ever handle a kid....

 Why was Lola in the car with you? You afraid she'll eat the house while you're gone?

Morning. I will be an act of God if I were to get pregnant :innocent:

Dee, are you "fixed"?? :P

Almost. I have an IUD. It's been working perfectly for 5 years. I don't expect to remove it, for at least 5 more years. So if it's god's will that I become preggers with it in i'll deal with it, but I'm not taking it out!!!!!

I feel your fustration. Ours, the EAD was approved today. It feels like (to hubby) we've been waiting a long time, when In fact we haven't I just filed for the thing. Well, hubby isn't even excited about it, acted like he could care less. :help: Some friends of his talked him into going into business with them, auto mechcanic (sp)/ opening up an auto service shop, so he feels like he has the chance of a life time to partner with these people to start his own business, something he has always done. He no longer wants to get a job working for someone else. So even though to him I am very supportive, encouraging the whole idea. There are red flags all over the place. I cannot be the one who ask what about this and what about that, for example the business license  I look like the bad person who is shooting down his dreams.

I agree, just extra money. All three of our cases were touched, after in filing for the EAD and the AP I think I made a huge mistake waiting to file the the EAD and the AP. They want that money  It's not that I am not greatful. I'm just pissed at the time it took to get things moving. I'm glad that I can finally focus on my life and not immigration.

Yep. I told her the same thing.

Better find those immunization records, Tia. If not, yes, he will probably have to get a whole new set of shots. They can be very costly. Make sure he brings them with him to the US too. We thought we lost Andre's, at one point. I was ready to kill him.

We have an old birth certificate of Andre's. No one has questioned it thus far. We've showed it at immigration, the DMV, SS office, etc.

you're telling me that jomo never did get the updated bc and no one had any problems with it? wow i thought for sure that somebody somewhere would've had an issue with it. wow.

my fiance's bc doesn't have his father listed on it either. i'm actually a bit confused about it, because i didn't think a child could take his father's last name unless the father's info is on it. (i don't think they were married at the time of his birth) so when i mentioned this to him, he decided to ask his mom about it. her only response was, "go ask your father why his name isn't on it." she was so nonchalant about it i almost laughed out loud.

another thing i just can't believe is that his date of birth is wrong! how in the hell can someone mess up a date of birth on a birth certificate for crying out loud??? isn't that the whole purpose of a bc? lol!
