thanks for the tips jomo's girl. i won't worry too much about his diploma then. he doesn't seem too interested in going back to school. and i'll advise him to get 2 copies of his long form birth certificate. he sent me an original bc, but i hear that one is no longer valid.

I wouldn't worry too much about the diploma....not even sure it would be "accepted" here. "Everyone" <employers> are interested in knowing if Roy got his GED....they could really care less what happened in Jamaica

Regarding the Birth Certificate -- I had Roy get two "originals" One we gave them at the interview and one he has here <and we have used it a few times>. I am going to have to order another "copy" because we have to send one to get his Passport renewed.....if you can, maybe you should have him get three copies....I wish Roy would have done that.

ricardo i am very happy for both of you, especially after that horrid interview. when's his arrival?

hello jomo's girl and furturemrs. since i've heard both of you (and jilly) refer to vj i thought i'd check it out. ohmygoodness this site was a confusing place when i first joined! there is soooo much information, and the terminology was strange. it is however a VERY helpful site and i'm so glad i'm here!

thanks for the tips jomo's girl. i won't worry too much about his diploma then. he doesn't seem too interested in going back to school. and i'll advise him to get 2 copies of his long form birth certificate. he sent me an original bc, but i hear that one is no longer valid.

now the thing that bothers me is his immunization record. we asked his mom if she knew where it was and she has no clue. boy i sure hope it turns up somewhere in the house!

a tip for anyone with an upcoming medical who will be "fasting from a certain kind of herb": i bought a home drug test kit from walmart and left it with him with instructions to use the kit prior to the medical exam to ensure that everyting will be criss. lol

Destiny - Thanks! Even more important then the test is that he NEVER, EVER admits to EVER, NOT EVEN ONCE to smoking ganja. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Yep. I told her the same thing.

Better find those immunization records, Tia. If not, yes, he will probably have to get a whole new set of shots. They can be very costly. Make sure he brings them with him to the US too. We thought we lost Andre's, at one point. I was ready to kill him.

We have an old birth certificate of Andre's. No one has questioned it thus far. We've showed it at immigration, the DMV, SS office, etc.

Question on Jamaican birth certificates

Me and my fiance are marrying in JA. One of the items needed to get our marriage certificate is a copy of our respective birth certificates. It also says that BC's should have the name of the father on them. My fiance BC doesnt have his fathers name on it. His father is deceased now. Is there something that we need to do to make sure his BC is ok for the wedding date? :help:

Andre doesn't even know who his father is. We've had no issues at all with the missing name.

Are you getting his passport renewed from the states? Andre's expires in 2009 and, thinking ahead, I am wondering if we can do this or if we have to do it while in JA.

And, as far as the herb go..........just lay off. Geez, if it means enough to them, they can forgo for a month or so.

Yeah. Roy's expires next January......I need to do a "bit" more research but it looks like you do it from here -- send it (with all the necessary info and $$$) to the Jamaican Embassy in Washington. They handle it from there. I <believe> you need the old passport, two pictures, birth certificate, the "form" and, of course, the $$$$$ I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Tia!!!

I didn't know you were here either! (Marsgirl76 -->Sarah)

How are you and how's it going?

And welcome!

  Well Yardie family, we are done, for now. Ricardo has his VISA in his hand. It took almost exactly one year and a lot a tears, fears and aggravation. I would not have been able to get through it all without you. I thank all of your for your help, guidance, welll wishes, experiences and support. (L) (L)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a wonderful outcome!

Well I started a new job 2 weeks ago...I am a receptionist/acct. clerk. It is the easiest job of my life and I am already VERY bored...but it is not stressful and has good hours...pay could be better but its money.

You need to find a good Mahjong game to play!!

Thats just it...the way this place is set up the main walkway is behind me so everyone can see what I am doing  I don't mind working...just give me something to do

Congrats on the new job

Thanks...can't wait for the benefits to kick in

I've had jobs like that before......you'e glad to pick up the paycheck BUT there are a million other things you could be doing to "waste" your time. Can you ask for more things to do or volunteer to help someone out?

I think it is one of those places that has people just to have people...you know what I mean? I am always offering to help but they are kinda territorial...dont' want anyone to know that someone else could possibly do their job at the same caliber as them...I am working with people who have been here for 25+ years...they are very stuck in their ways. In fact I use Lotus and type on a typewriter for most projects :help::help: I have tried little by little to revolutionize but they like it the way it is

I know everyone has their own frustrations....Bert's work permits expires today. The good thing is that he has been here for 3 months already. The bad thing is his job. Today is his last day. They have been touching the AOS like crazy but not touches in almost a month for his EAD. We just want one of them approved, don't care which one.

Just my vent for today..........

WE ARE DONE!!!
