Well I haven't been in here in awhile, but since I will be starting my paperwork next month I am freshening up on all the new information. This BC thing has always been confusing. There are so many people in JA witout their fathers name on the BC, my fiance being one of them. I would think that this would be an EXTREMELY hard thing to just add a fathers name. How do you find the father, if he's been gone all their life, what if the father is dead, what if the father isn't even Jamaican? All these are my situation....so what do I do?

Is there anyone who has REAL knowledge on this situation and not just speculation, cause this can cause some serious upsets in my timeline.

Thanks in advance!

i feel you girl. surely this is a very common issue. i just can't believe it's so doggone common to have errors on the BC to begin with. my fiance's father isn't listed on his BC (he was overseas during his birth) and his birthdate is wrong. i remember seeing somewhere on the RGD website how much it cost to fix the mistakes and girl it ain't cheap! no wonder people don't bother with it.

birth certificates - hubby just added his name to his daughters birth cerfiticate and I belive it was painless, he had to go to a principal of a school that knew them and that was that, but i can see it being painful, if the dad is overseas or just not involved or deceased.

I know someone up here, who had to get dna tests done for the father to put his name on his daughters birth certificate, she was well over 21 and the father knew it was his child, but that is what they had to do. so he could file for her.

OK thats what i meant NVC, thanks for the correction. Are they scheduling for k1 or k3? I"m actually here in Kingston, My fiance is the USC. I was asking if my BC had to show both parents name. I was reading a canadian poster's packet 3 and saw where they ask that the BC have both parents name on it.

I'm not sure. I heard recently that JA is now requesting both parents to be on the BC but then again I seen others get approved w/o any problems. Maybe someone else can add to this, b/c my husband have both names on his.

NVC is scheduling for the CR-1 / IR-1 visa. Not sure about the K3, I would think not since it's the same process as the K1.

Yeah when we got married they told to make sure that my husband had his fathers name on his BC..

How do you "make sure"? If it's there, it's there. If not, it's not.

What do u mean..how do u make sure ur dad's name is on his BC.....just look at it..if it's not it can be added, there are exceptions though..this is what the church told us

You make it sound so easy....."it can be added". Would there not be some hoops to jump through to add him? Can you just call vital records or something and add a name to a birth certificate? I would think not. I would imagine some sort of proof would be needed and it would all take time.

Who said it would be easy..we are dealing with JAMAICA here...nothing that we had to would was easy...some things r easier than some but none of it is totally easy. Of course you would have to show some kind of proof of the father or the father could go up to RGD and get it done..I'm replying to the question of can it be done....nothing is easy...and anything is possible
