He said that he's afraid that he won't be able to find a job but they are available…I have access to the job listings. By the time he came around…the job closed. He didn't see the benefits until it was too late. But trust me, I understand his concerns…leaving JA, coming here to a life and job which he loves so much then going back.

Someone just told me that same job is available in Nairobi, Kenya….I won't waste my breathe on that one.

So, are you going? D gave me the same response. I'm thinking about going into the Navy. He's like what am "I going to do"? I seh work same way!

No, I decided to wait next year.

Ladies I have a big dilemma. Tony wants to go to Louisiana to work for 8 months! :o The work would start in September. The baby is due in December. He says he would come home on weekends. I have a HUGE problem with this and he doesn't seem to understand or he just doesnt' care. All he sees are $$$ signs. I do not want to be a single mom. This is my first baby - I am scared to death :( I do not want a weekend relationship with my husband - I want him there every day. I had enough of long distance relationship BS when he was still in Jamaica.

Not to mention, there are no direct flights from there to Detroit and the flights cost about $400 each!! That would be $1600 a month in plane fares plus he would have to rent an apartment down there for during the week. He doesn't seem to understand the insanity of his plan. The more I try to talk him out of it, the more stubborn and determined he is to make it happen. Please advise :help::crying:

Girl I can totally see what your saying..def need a serious talk. I just had to shut down my husband his job wants him to go to Trinidad, I said YOU MUST BE OUT OF UR DAMN MIND ! Where does he think he's going NOW..u have an interview in 1 1/2 mth...got to be kidding..but hang in there...do the pro/con talk

Damien and I are in a similar situation. We had a talk recently about moving overseas...we both agreed that it would be nice to experience living somewhere else in the Caribbean or Africa but Kingston would be nice. He said that was okay with him because it's only a year but no more than three years. Right now I work in personnel for 40+ European Embassies at the State Department. I hire family members of foreign service officers at each Embassy. Before the end of the summer all of the personnel regional countries will combine except for the Middle East. My workload will increase tremendously and I will be on traveling a lot…looking for a new job.

Well last month an office management specialist job opened in Kingston. Civil service job vacancies are rare in Kingston so I was so happy. Damien was not excited at all. Although we had this talk many times, he changed his mind. It's not like he was going to struggle when he lived in JA before - being my spouse he could work for the Embassy or other US gov'ment agencies in JA with full benefits. I thought Kingston will be better because it's familiar to both of us and not far from home...3 hours away. The tour last three years with 2 paid vacations home to the US lasting a month at a time and I can use my other vacation time if we have to come home. We could have returned if we didn't like it. Advantages: free housing in a nice neighborhood in Kingston, Damien would have been closer to his family, top security, hired help, free education for my daughter to go to a private American school in Kingston, get out of debt, save lots of money and live in my favorite country…his home.

I always had a dream of working at the Kingston US embassy. Do you have to go through extensive background check for a civil service position?

It depends on your position...most require a secret clearance while others may request a public trust clearance which is not as extensive.

Yes enjoy the alone time!!! AMEN I am so glad he has friends here besides me.

I am so thankful that when we went to a reggae around the poolside party last month that Neil came across a friend from Jamaica :dance: He has been here for ten years now and lives about 10 minutes from us. It really helps with the adjustment for us, and has cut back on the phone calls home :D

Damien has lots of friends here...some childhood friends from JA, co-workers, gym buddies....and he STILL does not go anywhere :help: His workout buddies invited him to a Caribbean cookout last weekend...I had to fake a headache to get out of going...he had a wonderful time...I had a few hours to myself

Sorry you missed out on that. At least Damien could have moved there WITH you. Tony knows I can't move right now. He wants to go there anyways to work - without me  I can't leave my job right now - I need my benefits and my maternity leave, not to mention I can't get time off thru FMLA if I haven't been at the same job for at least 12 months. So no way can I go down there.

I was about to leave him here...it was a hard decision because I wanted that job soooooooo bad...only 3 other people applied for it  Marriage is about compromising and sacrificing.

We also decided to wait until he receives his 10 year green card...didn't want to be overseas in the middle of the process.

You know last night I had to remind myself of the emotional roller coaster ride we were on trying to get him here, cause last night I was forced to watch an hour or so of Mr. Bean :(:help: Wishing I could go up stairs and just read a book  Talk about wanting some alone time, it was torture, but of course I sat there pretending to laugh at what was no where near funny or amusing, on the other hand he was tickled pink :help:

I understand I watch his horror flicks and action movies. Sometimes I fall asleep on him but he hasnt noticed yet.

 Bean oh my Props to you

My SO loves the Discovery and the History channel. I mean how many documentary can you watch in one day. Then he likes to quiz me on information he learns.:wacko::help:

Antiques Roadshow...............Andre is enthralled with the Antiques Roadshow. We never miss an episode.

Damien LOVES basketball....I am so sick of basketball especially now with the playoffs......but at least he keeps him busy while I watch Will & Grace every night

He also watches wrestling every Monday and Friday nights. Sometimes we watch soccer on the Spanish channel :dead:

my fiance has never had cable, and when we stay together in a hotel the tv is constantly on. his addiction: sports (specifically soccer & cricket).

Neil didn't have cable either, they only got on channel in yard JTV  He didn't watch much tv. The few times we stayed in a hotel it was music vidoes, music vidoes and more music vidoes  Oh and how did I forget to soccer and cricket

One more thing.... Is channel surfing a man thing??? Or is it just my mans thing?

So, can u request the visa to be delivered at a particular address or what..how do they do that..?

You can request to have it sent to your address or the post office. The post office then will call your hubby to pick it up. That is what we did and had it in 5 working days.

My fiance complained so much about my 13 inch tv that I finally updated to a flat screen 20 inch. It was a deal I could not refuse...So now he wants me to throw away a perfectly working 13 inch tv saying that it is too small and a piece of junk. That TV got me through college. Also, I got Direct TV so that I can watch shows with him....via telephone....and we crack up laughing together. I miss him.

Has anyone stayed at Rooms on the Beach in Ocho Rios/Runaway Bay? The are having a great deal $94 a night...but it seems a little suspect.

If not, what a nice place either Montego Bay or Ocho area to stay?

I've known a few places who stayed at Rooms on the Beach. They said they were okay. Nothing spectacular; but not nasty either. In MoBay, I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, Royal Decameron, and some nasty hotel where we refused to sleep on the sheets provided or touch the shower curtain. Can't remember the name of that last place. I loved Sunspree and Decameron. Both were very nice.

Sarah: You better get Marlon some cable. Sometimes I think that was the only thing that saved Andre from screaming boredom while waiting to be able to get a job.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I know, and I will. The cool thing is I have a roommate now who is willing to show Marlon around when I am at work! We were just talking about cable the other day and we are certainly planning on it!
