Ladies I have a big dilemma. Tony wants to go to Louisiana to work for 8 months! :o The work would start in September. The baby is due in December. He says he would come home on weekends. I have a HUGE problem with this and he doesn't seem to understand or he just doesnt' care. All he sees are $$$ signs. I do not want to be a single mom. This is my first baby - I am scared to death :( I do not want a weekend relationship with my husband - I want him there every day. I had enough of long distance relationship BS when he was still in Jamaica.

Not to mention, there are no direct flights from there to Detroit and the flights cost about $400 each!! That would be $1600 a month in plane fares plus he would have to rent an apartment down there for during the week. He doesn't seem to understand the insanity of his plan. The more I try to talk him out of it, the more stubborn and determined he is to make it happen. Please advise :help::crying:

futuremrs, you might want to hold off on the courier service. i just used the number that jengles provided. i got an appointment for my fiance to drop off the ds-230 next week. she told me not to use the courier service and i was really surprised that we got an appointment so quick. she said that he'll probably end up with an august interview date. i'm praying that it'll be within the first 2 weeks so that i can still go with him.

here's what we're going to do:

1. fiance goes to embassy next week to drop off ds-230 and pick up packet (it contains the medical info too)

2. i will start calling in about a week to see if an interview date is set

3. fiance will go back to the embassy to pick up the interview letter (since we don't want to wait on the mail and we must have the letter in order to get into the embassy for the actual interview)

Picking up the packet at the embassy is a good idea. Donna told me last night that in Kingston the mail is not delivered on rainy days. I was thinking the packet would be delivered in a few days, but with all the rain they've had, who knows when it will get to Donna.

Does anyone have an idea how long the Embassy take to answer emails? I sent an email on Thursday and was just wondering when I should expect an answer.

I don't know if they have improved or not, but they never answered half of my e-mails! And when they did, it took forever.

I think I'm going to just call the Embassy today.

Mail not delivered on rainy days?? Please don't make me laugh...and hubby wanted to wait two weeks before the date to order the police certificate...I was like NO, I remeber how the taxi commission in Ochi was closed for a week because of a leak...lol

Lay it out for him in dollars and cents. add up how much he will be making and then subtract the plane tickets (because he will be paying for them) and apartment costs and let him see his real profit. Is he working now, he probably wants to make a significant contribution to household, if he's not working.

So I got my bank verification letter today. All it has is the date my account was opened and the current amount! I'm pissed because the lady I spoke with from the bank assured me that it would include the total amount of deposits for the last year. I paid $10.00 for that piece of ####### that ain't gonna help me! So, did anyone print out ALL of their bank statements for the 12 month period for the interview??? :help:

When I got my bank verification it didn't have the total deposits on it either. I was worried that this was not going to be good enough. I printed off statements for the last 12 months, and highlighted the deposits from my job for each month.

They ended up only taking the letter and never looked at my statements... But I was ready for them I was determined to be totally prepared

Oh myyyy....I totally understand him wanting to make some mega bucks, especially with the baby coming, he wants to be able to provide...But I would flip my lid if my other half suggested doing this!!

He says he'll come back on weekends, but I would lay money on him coming back for the first few, then the visits getting further and further apart :(

WOuld it be worth talking to his mom or sister maybe?

They would understand how you feel about being left alone while pregnant, even though I'd go ape even if I wasn't!!

I would be scared of being home alone, when you're pregnant ANYTHING can happen :(

Again, you hardly see enough of him as it is with your crazy shifts....

Maybe sitting him down and telling him how much you love him and how much you desperately need him around now more than ever might work.

Can someone tell me what stuff we submit that they keep at the interview. I mean like birth certificate and stuff like that. I just wonder if I'll get back my original or if he will get back his original. Or do they keep everything that they ask for?

They kept the original birth certifercates when we went to the interview. The originals will be returned to you in the brown envelope that you'll receive along with your visa.

What is the current address for the US embassy in Kingston? The address in my letter from the State Department is different from the address on their web site.

Isn't this the new address?

U.S. Embassy Kingston, Jamaica,

Consular Services

142 Old Hope Road,

Kingston 6,

Jamaica,

W.I.

The letter states that the case will be processed at:

Kingston

Embassy of the United States

Jamaica Mutual Life Center, 2 Oxford Road 3rd Fl

Kingston 5,

Jamaica

Is this the address to sent in the DS-230?

Oxford Road was the address of the Old Embassy. Maybe there are still processing them there or something.

Old Hope Road is the new address of the Embassy.

Hey guys I am restarting your great thread as it got too big and slowed down the server some.

Link to the old thread:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22717

Hey guys, I am new to the site, discovered it while surfing the net researching ways to get my new found love to join me here in the US without waiting forever. I am obsessed with this site. I log on every day reading all the interesting pointers and the various journies/experiences that you all have been through. My eyes have been opened so greatly. I am amazed at the process and trying to understand the language and different steps to achieving this goal. After having lived here for over 20 years and not thinking I would need immigration at some point, I am clueless as to the proper way/steps to follow. I have no doubt that you guys will be there for me when I officially start the process.

BIG UP

Welcome Clairern!! All the best with your visa journey!

No only 3 and my bank is on the internet. They didn't even look at bank statements.

Phew thanks!

Also welcome to Clairern!!!

No problem. Don't stress to much about the interview it will go fine.

Thanks! I really appreciate that! You know how the mind works and all the lil niggly "what ifs"! lol

Yep I understand LOL. Just make sure you have an organized folder and it will go smoothly. Everyone was ewwing and ahhing over my organization. Just send Marlon an organized folder and things will go smoothly. I wonder why I even worried in the first place. All the best.

Can you suggest what type of folder that is not too heavy and can be sent at a lower cost?

I used one of those top loading (with the slide clip things) pressed cardboard one. Got it at Office Depot. Organized by using colored paper with insertable plastic tabs for sections.

These prices would only be accurate IF no shots were needed. Shots add to the cost.

Who was is that said they had the medical not at the Hope Rd. location but it was cheap and included shots?

That was me, I don't think my fiance paid much more than $100.

Hey I did a search, this may help..This was posted some time ago

Because of the way the info was formatted, it's a little scrambled and I'm trying to unscramble it. This is what I got:

MoBay Hope Medical Centre

Half Moon Shopping Village

Rose Hall, Montego Bay

(876)926-7401-3 (I'll assume that means 7401, 7402 and 7403)

US$95 for adults

Andrews Memorial Hospital

27 Hope Road

Kingston 10

(876)953-3981

US$90 for adults

Dr. Michael Banbury

Medical Associates Hospital

18 Tangerine PI

St. James

Kingston 10

(876)908-2123

US$80 for adults

Can someone please let me know if I have lined the information up correctly, matched all the names, addresses and phone numbers?

Andre did not get his back at all. I ended up just ordering some recently from the RDG so we would have another to renew his passport later this year.

Wow. This is a dilemma. I would feel exactly the same as you if I were in your shoes.

I agree with the sit down and chat with him suggestions. The only way I got Andre to understand our finances was to sit him down and go over them in black and white. To this day, he still needs gentle reminders. Once you subtract the plane fares and related traveling expenses, the completely seperate living arrangements including rent, utilities, cable, transportation, food, etc., is it really that great of a paying job? Add to that the additional stress on you and the chance he will not be there for the birth of your child......................Well, good luck to you. I'm sure I would end up screaming at him if Andre came up with this plan.
